Mayo Clinic treatment

I have not but they are a leading expert in Osteoporosis! I have a friend who went for a different diagnosis and he said it was the best experience ever. Mayo helped with his recovery. Mayo is a great health system.

I went to the Mayo a year ago and they confirmed my severe osteoporosis (-4 in spine). I can't take Forteo or Tymlos due to parathyroid issues. The Dr recommended Fosamax, but I declined after reading the side effects, and reading studies that showed there wasn't much benefit as far as fracture reduction. I am 75 and have known of my severe osteoporosis for 8 years and have not fractured. The Dr disagreed with my decision to go drug-free but said it was my decision to make. Since my diagnosis, I take calcium with Vitamin K, Vitamin D and AlgaeCal collagen with Fortibone.

@daisy17 Thank you for your reply. I am needing second opinions on my spine and medicine too. I have chronic back pain from healed fractures that seem to be muscle related but my pt aggravates it. Now I have learned being on Tramadol was not a good choice for pain during pt. So now going off it. Not easy and takes effects of the muscle pain being worse before better. Hoping all of that clear before I go.

@hansens Thank you so much for your reply. It is most helpful. I have heard great things about Mayo and why I decided to go. I like that many doctors look at your overall problems and come up with the best solution.
I have not made my appointment. Heard it would be better to be referred by doctor than making your own appointment. Do you know if that is factual? Again thank you and I will definitely post my experience.

I go to Mayo Clinic in Rochester. For Immunology my GP referred me. For Endocrinology (Osteoporosis) I did not have a referral. You could give them a call and ask if they prefer a referral.

You don't need to be referred by a doctor. Staff at Mayo told me there was no benefit to that vs. self-referral.
