Ambien and mirtazapine

Posted by imomtojdkt @imomtojdkt, Jun 5, 2024

I have gone through a lot of trauma and medical issues this last year and it’s gotten to the point the Ambien I’ve taken for 15 years isn’t working well anymore. My doc started me on Mirtazapine for that and other issues and I thought I could just cold turkey the Ambien. That does not work. Does anyone have suggestions, I’m thinking of cutting Ambien down 25% a week while taking Mirtazapine so I can eventually only reply on that. Any thoughts?TIA

7.5 mg. My body has adjusted well and I’m sleeping!

Just checking in to see if you are still taking 7.5mg of mirtazapine and if it's still helping you sleep. Also, have you had any side effects, such as weight gain which many people seem to have?

I just got a prescription for 7.5mg but tried that dose before and was extreme tiredness for the next 3 days, so will probably try 1/2 of that dose. My insomnia is really bad. Thank you.

I’m still on it and have been for over a year. A bit tired in the morning but I sleep well! I have 15 mg pills and cut them in half.
Good luck!

Doctors should give you an anxiety medication while tapering off Ambien. Ambien is the WORST! It gave me horrible anxiety and only kept me asleep 3 or 4 hours.... and had to take more.... just as addictive as benzos but doctors have no problem giving out Ambien and you have to fight to get a benzo....which are HANDS DOWN THE BEST ANXIETY AND SLEEP MEDS OUT THERE. Good luck to you. I was determined to get off Ambien and I did with the help of Lorazepam I was able to stop Ambien without tapering. Lorazepam is a great medication....helps both anxiety and sleep! But good luck getting it! I just don't get it.....doctors will prescribe anything else that is just as addictive! And most don't work like benzos do.

@cindisue lorazepam worked very sporadically for me. Some nights half a milligram put me right to , Other nights 1 mg took an hour to get to sleep if not morel And many days I was really drowsy; It has a long half-life

@cindisue reminder that what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another, as we have discussed.
