Radiation treatment with UC in remission

Is anyone receiving radiation treatment, both Brachy and IMRT, for prostrate cancer while having UC in remission? Cancer is Gleason 8 with PSA of 50. Doc says there is slight risk for UC flare.

Hey Mark, I had Grade zero bladder cancer - not involving the muscle layer - treated with BCG after prostatectomy 5 yrs ago.
I recently had IMRT and the subject of ‘waking up’ the bladder cancer did arise. No real way to prevent it from recurring, unfortunately.
I’ve had 2 cystoscopes since radiation and so far so good, but you just never know.
I decided to treat the cancer I KNEW I had rather than worry about the one that MIGHT come back…

In the “2023 mid-year PCRI Patient Conference,” Dr. Rossi mentions this in his presentation about proton radiation: https://www.youtube.com/live/WTqPnSRYtW4

His full presentation starts at timestamp: 3:38:45

The portion about radiation and UC occurs during a Q&A session at time: 4:48:15.

@thmssllvn Isn’t UC ulcerative colitis?

@brianjarvis UC has 25 meanings. The context helps in choosing. An MPH in a Bugatti would mean a person in the car with a masters in public health; whereas the mph of a Bugatti would be well over 100.

@thmssllvn Still, regarding prostate cancer, UC is typically in reference to concerns about ulcerative colitis.

I reread the original post. It seems like 'flare up' would be colitis related not bladder cancer related. It does bring up an issue. Abbreviations might best be used after the full meaning is detailed, ...ulcerative colitis (UC) and thereafter just the abbreviation. Thanks for pointing out the most likely meaning by the questioner.

Ulcerative Colitis, I should have been clearer. Thanks for the comments. My radiation oncologist has had 5 previous UC patient with no issues. He is promoting a hydrogel spacer and a Brachy boost.
