I reread the original post. It seems like 'flare up' would be colitis related not bladder cancer related. It does bring up an issue. Abbreviations might best be used after the full meaning is detailed, ...ulcerative colitis (UC) and thereafter just the abbreviation. Thanks for pointing out the most likely meaning by the questioner.
