@neisie13 ,
I have suffered with a constant bitter/salty/metallic taste since Sept. 2023. I also had smell disorder. My taste of normal food was off too, but the worst was the constant bitter taste. Mine was much as you describe. Gum helps, but I still taste bitter as soon as I take it out.

Mine was diagnosed as post covid syndrome, but I had also taken an antibiotic and an antifungal. So, the exact cause of mine is unknown. I’ve seen ENT and 2 neurologists.

Mine has improved a lot lately! I have no idea why. I have had trouble finding much info about causation or treatments. It’s a bizarre thing that I never imagined I’d have. I pray it continues to improve. I hope you see improvement too! I know how stressful this can be. People can’t imagine how hard it is to face this day after day. It’s a struggle I know.

Thank you so much for replying. I have read so many articles about this taste disorder and there can be so many causes but I don't see many treatments other than what I am already doing. I have read about Covid possibly causing it but as far as I know I have never had Covid. I have stopped medications that aren't totally necessary in case they were the cause but that didn't help. I was really hoping that the Gabapentin would help but it's doing nothing... When I go back to my ENT I am going to ask him if he can do some kind of taste study which I have read about. Ugh....Right, no one understands how difficult it is to spend day after day trying to figure out how to get some relief. I'm so glad to hear that your taste is getting better though!!! Did the neurologists have any answer at all since I was told that maybe I should see one? I hate to start with another doctor... Thanks again for replying.

I'm going through the same thing. Mine started after the dentist cleaned out an old root canal and put a new cap on it. They used numbing shots and once that wore off I have never been the same. They don't know. I went to 3 different dentists after and no one knows.
