I wanted to have my knee surgery before the heart but no anesthesiologist would touch me. Now I have to have the heart first then the knee. I was hoping to have it a few months after the heart surgery..is this possible? Sharon

Hi Sharon @oliviasoma,
That's a question I cannot answer except to say "it depends." It depends on what your physician says and how you are doing. I can give you my opinion (for FREE!) and that is to say I think a few months is too soon after a septal myectomy to go through another surgery under anesthesia.
I am almost five months out from my knee surgery and the results are not wonderful. This supposedly simple surgery has kept me from walking my trails and in PT for over four months.
I'd give your body time to heal completely before jumping into another surgery.

As for the open heart surgery in Rochester: When you leave town, you are ready to go. You may have some lingering fear of being too far away from this incredible facility, but they would not send you home if they didn't think you were ready. The incision in my case had no sutures on the outside, and self-dissolving sutures in the subcutaneous under layers.
I know you must be anxious about all that is coming up, because if you didn't you would not be like everyone else!

You will be at the finest place in the world for this and your fears will turn to wonder and thankfulness as you go through the process. Keep reading the posts on here and store up the information for future reference...I was scared out of my mind! But when I first joined Connect, two people reached out to me and eased my fears somewhat. I loved having their input and no longer felt alone. Your Connect family is right here with you!
