My wife’s orthopedic surgeon we requested that he do a cobalt chromium poisoning test and he declined, expressing that if she weren’t any better in a year that he would then request both test to be performed. Upon her return home, we requested it from her primary physician who did do the test and found her cobalt levels to be 17.7 and her chromium levels to be 9.3. Needless to say, we made a follow up visit to the hospital where she had her surgery is done, and the surgeon that performed her first surgery had moved to a different hospital. The new surgeon who’s name last name was machete, performed a revision on her left hip in 2 1/2 years later, because her chromium cobalt levels started to go down and then came right back up did the revision on the right hip. After removing the complete component and placing a medicated spacer in there for eight weeks with antibiotics through an IV straight to her, because she also had a staff infection. So I have very little faith in the surgeons, unless you are a very strong advocate of your own!
