Has anybody here in this group been diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer?

Hi
I was stage zero also. I did not plan on doing any Radiation but when the pathologist got my Biopsy back there was a microscopic break in the 1 wall. He said it would be better to do it.So I had to choose between 20 days.Or ten of double dose. I did ten. I did not do the AI drugs either.

I’m sorry to hear that but mine was in my milk duct, not in my breast yet, so I was lucky

I was diagnosed with DCIS in September, had surgery in November and had radiation in the prone position for 5 days from 1/6/25 through 1/10/25. It was no big deal. The procedure took about 15-20 minutes and most of that time was spent getting into the proper position. There was zero pain and after 5 days the only issue was very, very mild tenderness of the breast. I wouldn't even describe it as pain. I used Aquaphor on the breast and had no redness, no discoloration of the skin, no dryness of the skin....NOTHING. The staff at the Charlton Building at Mayo (Rochester) was very kind and professional. Good luck and I hope your experience is as good as mine was.

Really helpful and encouraging post, @southstgirl. Thanks.

What, if anything, do you wish you have known before treatment? What tips would you offer someone with a new diagnosis?

I had my treatment at Mayo in Rochester and the staff was amazing. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you have ANY questions at all the staff is helpful and will take good care of you. Be sure to routinely use a lotion on the breast and nipple area. I used Aquaphor. It is thicker than a Vaseline and left a grease stain on my bra that I couldn’t remove. Ask them to play your favorite music while you’re getting the radiation and concentrate on the words to the songs. It’s totally painless and doesn’t take very long. Good luck and I’ll be thinking of you. Let me know how it goes. HUGS!

I’m 63 and yes blessed!! Estrogen pod but 0 stage so I went with my own gut feeling of no radiation and no therapy drugs because they caused so many different effects but I thought I did the right thing cause I’m a year clean good luck in your endeavors. That’s all they wanted me to do too is a week, but like I said zero stage, I didn’t feel like putting my body through anything I didn’t have to
