Fibromyalgia pain: Let's connect

Posted by clownscrytoo @clownscrytoo, Oct 22, 2016

Is there anyone here that suffers from fibro? I had the 'tender spot test' several years ago and I had 17 out of the 18. I try my hardest to get through the pain with my 4 hydrocodone/acetaminaphine pills a day, Tiger Balm rubbed into areas that are the worst, light exercises, and distracting myself with hobbies or chores, etc; but there are many occasions where none of that helps and I spend most of the day holding down the couch, getting up about 30-45 minutes after that, walking/standing around the house for 15-20 minutes, or sitting for about 15-30 min. I do not drive and my husband works 6 days a week, overtime almost every day, so I'm alone a lot. my wonderful husband is very supportive and I am very grateful for that, but my only other friends are online, out of state, and I will probably never even get to meet them. when extreme pain takes over, my depression takes over and it is so difficult to find hope. does anyone have tips for fibro, whether diet or over-the-counter meds (I've tried them all, I think), or anything, besides hobbies and such? I've tried every over-the-counter med, and the Tiger Balm does cover some of what the pain pill doesn't help, but I'm hoping one of our members might have some knowledge that could help. I'd really appreciate it.
hugz,

I would love to come to Mayo. However I am seeing my doctors at the University of Texas. I am sure they are the best. They know how I feel. Please let me know if you received my other two emails. My finger must be working against me today. I either deleted my message to you or it send partial answer.

@oregongirl Sounds like we both wore our bodies out. I do not see it as you planned wrongly. As we know we cannot change the past. Things are definitely not like "The Waltons". I do not recall so many illnesses a few years back. I have opinions and best I not approach this area. I see it as things have gone too far. The fast pace of our current world. I have a small apartment and can keep up with things. Yes, I want to do more and would prefer to still be working. even volunteering is not an option. I do what I can and at times more than I should. Hope you come to a decision that is good for "you".

I live in California too, in Orange County. My husband and I used to live in Fremont/Union City, and before that, in Sunnyvale. My last job was in Ridgecrest, California, which is in the high desert at China Lake Naval Research Center, south of Mammoth Mountain. Our adult son lives there now. We had thought about moving to a Senior apartment complex in Ridgecrest as it was pretty inexpensive and is a new facility. At the time a couple of years ago, the rent was $500/month. It's not an assisted living center, it's apartments, but that might be something you could look into.

We enjoy Ridgecrest when we're there. It's about 35,000 people and has decent weather. It is very hot in the summer (110+) and can be cold in the winter (40s), but no snow! It gets windy too, but it has everything you need, including a hospital. You might want to check it out. Good luck.

Victorious. I just completed a flare. I almost am afraid to say this but I have very little pain. I just know going thru a flare lasting over a week has got to be hard on my heart. I called my Cardiologist to get my heart checked. I have had a bad heart for years
I have read that most RA patients die from heart disease. Well if the doctor would give me some pain pills it would be easier on my heart.

Parus. With prayer and allowing God to take the reins I came to agree with myself that I cannot afford ind living. If my husband was alive our income would be doubled and we could afford ind. Living. The guest house behind my kids is small. It hard to keep organized in too small an area. I am moving to a 2 bedroom apt. The large complex was military housing. With millions they turned them into 50,s apts. Real Hard wood floors crown molding the whole thing. I swore I did not want to live around children . But maybe that is what I need.

THE APARTMENT SOUNDS PERFECT! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH HAVING TO ADMIT YOU COULD USE THE ASSISTANCE OF YOUR CHILDREN. I AM SURE THAT IF IT WERE A REVERSED SITUATION, YOU WOULD HELP THEM, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. I HAVE OFTEN HEARD PEOPLE SAY THEY WOULD RATHER BE PUT IN A HOME THAN ASK FOR HELP FROM THEIR CHILDREN OR LIVE WITH THEM. SOMETIMES, WE JUST HAVE TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR US.

PLEASE PARDON ALL CAPS. MY FINGERS ARE STIFF AND TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS JUST EASIER.

NO, WE ARE NOT IN THE DAYS OF THE WALTONS WHEN GENERATIONS LIVED TOGETHER AND TOOK CARE OF EACH OTHER. BUT, IT DOESN'T MEAN IT CANNOT BE THAT WAY. I THINK ONE ISSUE IS THAT WE HAVE BECOME TO PROUD TO ASK OUR KIDS TO HELP US. WE FEEL WE MUST DO IT ALL AND LEAVE OUR KIDS TO THEIR OWN LIVES.

AS MUCH AS I WOULD LIKE TO LIVE ON MY OWN, I WOULD HAVE NOT PROBLEM ASKING MY KIDS FOR HELP AND I KNOW THEY WOULD TAKE ME IN. MORE AND MORE SENIORS ARE BUILDING NEW HOMES OR PUTTING ADDITIONS ONTO THE HOMES OF THEIR CHILDREN SO THAT THEY CAN HAVE AN AREA FOR THEMSELVES BUT IN THE SAME HOME.

YES, I BELIEVE WE ALL WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO DO MORE THAN WE CAN AND I UNDERSTAND WHY WE CANNOT EVEN VOLUNTEER. THAT REALLY BOTHERS ME. I WOULD LOVE TO VOLUNTEER, TOO, BUT I KNOW THAT I CANNOT BE COUNTED ON TO SHOW UP REGULARLY.

WE NEED TO DO WHAT WE CAN AND GET AS MUCH ENJOYMENT AS WE CAN, WHEN WE CAN.
