18 year Total Colectomy patient here and considering Jardiance.

Hi everyone!!!

First post here and so thankful to find this forum!

I have been presented an option for my newly diagnosed DM2 issue and am hoping to get feedback.

Here is the raw data:
Had total colectomy in 2008 after diagnoses of Ulcerative Colitis (UC).
Have managed well in past 16 years with this.

Newly diagnosed with DM2 (A1C was 7.8)
Tried Metformin. No good. Bowel issues as expected.

Now being presented with Jardiance. Im skeptical of this med as it appears to remove fluid very quickly. This is concerning because I have no colon left. Dehydration as concern.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

I'd say that would be a good question for your internist.

Thank you for the reply! And yes, I will certainly inquire with him on this. I find that “real world” experiences of patients oftentimes trump out the generalized advice of some pcp’s. Thanks again. .

I agree! But since it's such a big decision...also good to hear what people say.
