More than one auto immune disease?

Hi, sorry to hear that. Looks like you have a beauty there but at least they say its treatable. Is your diagnosis recent and are you receiving treatment? Personally, I've had Grave's disease and Sjogren's syndrome which often is accompanied by some flavor of thyroid autoimmunity. I think that you'll find that having more than 1 autoimmune diagnosis is probably the rule rather than the exception. Someone has formally named the condition where 3 or more occur but its likely that more than 1 is common.

You will find that many people have more than one autoimmune disease condition. I'll let @johnwburns speak to that.

Hi! Although I suppose I am not technically fully diagnosed yet, but current seems to be Fibromyalgia and Seronegative. In fact my doctor most recently wrote in my summary "Fibromyalgia V. Seronegative" Does the "V" mean literally versus? Like either/or? Or does this mean she believes I have both?

Nanke, seronegative is not a condition, but rather a description. Seronegative means that tests don’t show the presence of specific antibodies in your blood. For example in the case of rheumatoid arthritis seronegative RA doesn't have anti-cyclic citrullinated peptides (anti-CCPs), whereas seropositive RA does. In the summary that your doctor wrote, what was the word that followed seronegative?

vs fibro

with the 'vs fibro' in italics, and no word after seronegative. I have assumed seronegative RA, because we discussed it a little and that had been a previous diagnosis at this clinic when I was seen by a resident. Also I have been having severe joint pains, mostly symmetrical, in hand, wrist, elbows, etc and basically fitting the symptom profile. Thanks for the link.

Hi, i have multiple actually, Diabetes since i was 13 years old, then Rheumatoid arthritis since couple of years followed by fibromailogia and some disorders with the thyroid:) 🙂

Hi. Yes I have RA and fibromyalgia.

I have RA and Sjogren's. I believe it is fairly common to have more than one auto immune disease. My experience has been a diagnoses does not have to lead to a dark hole. Find what works for you. I highly recommend swimming and walking. Pace yourself, but try to stay active.

It is true that if you have one autoimmune disease, you may likely develop another one.
