Chronic pain and medical marijuana

Posted by ladyjane85 @ladyjane85, Jul 16, 2016

A nurse friend tried me on marijuana oil smoked in an electronic pen since nothing works with my pain under everything pain management has tried. I did not respond - can one be immune to it as I am with all procedures on my back and all pain relievers

Good morning Vickie,
Mayo clinic is the leading founder in the indusrty on genetic testing and more specificlly parmacogenetic testing. Mayo acct services will help with the insurance coverage. But the doctor could always ask laboratory services. You can share this link with him/her.

http://mayoresearch.mayo.edu/center-for-individualized-medicine/drug-gene-testing.asp

One of the nice things about this test is that it is a once-in-a-lifetime test. You don’t need to repeat it because it’s showing which drugs your genes can and cannot break down and that is based on your DNA.

Another valuable part of getting this test done is that the last page has a summary of all your genetic polymorphisms i.e. which pathways work well genetically and which pathways don’t. If you are stuck in an emergency room, you can give this to the emergency doctor who could cross-reference it with drugs that would be appropriate for you in the ER.
We use this in our facility daily. We have better healthcare outcomes, decreased hospital visits, happy patients that are being treated with less medications and reduced cost of medications.

I just tried the oil (smoked) THC from marijuana 3 diff x's, and more than<br>a male would use - no reaction at all.<br>Am being told of sublingual CBD for pain - do not know price. Then told of<br>testing for diff meds since either I react badly of they do not help at<br>all. This is called pharmacogenetic testing or PBx or monecular profiling -<br>will have to talk to my pain management dr. ladyjane85<br><br>

THC is not typically the right choice for pain management. You need Marijuana oil with high levels of CBD. High THC is helpful if you are looking for sleep or to drive hunger. Higher CBD levels are used to help pain. You have to find the right balance - all MJ strains (there are many!) have different levels of each compound. Currently where I live it is legal with a script and government approval. The oil is manufactured as drops that go under the tongue, not in pill form and not for smoking.. It is high in CBD and low in THC. Most people find relief at some level about 20 to 40 minutes after administration. If the strain you tried does not have high levels of CBD you may not get any relief at all. I'm hoping this is helpful. I was confused for the longest time wondering why sometimes it worked and other times it just made me sleepy until I dug in to do some research. Turns out all pot is not created equally!

I have used a joint when I had pain and one seemed to do it. I think it is as much the strength as it is a persons tolerance

Right- Figuring out how much one needs is certainly individual. But I don't mean the quantities you need to smoke/eat. I mean that each strain of marijuana has a different amount of the two active ingredients. There are vast numbers of strains of the plant. If you need sleep or appetite stimulation, you want one type of plant. If you are looking for pain management you probably want a different plant that has higher CBD levels. So purchasing it from a dispensary where they know what levels of each compound are is going present.

With my conditions of epilepsy, migraine headaches, pharmacology and<br>depression prior to my cancer diagnosis and hospice; plus 3rd. stage kidney<br>disease "I turned the thought of any Marijuana use down, before it had<br>reached the success it did with Canniblis oil and justifiably so!! When I<br>can read with significant reseach relative to my health conditions that<br>"marijuana use before 50 is ok in treating certain conditions, but after 50<br>can be detrimental, I ask the following? How many are aware that with<br>marijuana use, they are actually losing certain brain elements, that (being<br>young--50 or less; most systems can rebuild." Add that to 50 and above,<br>when our lives and systems have slowed down in their operation, your not<br>going to have the systematic tools to rebuild what marijuana has taken<br>away; since your living and growing at a slower pace.<br><br>Many neurologists I've also read, have refused to sign on with the<br>treatment this way. With a doctors training, schooling and experience in<br>their field or endeavor, many still don't accept the fact that it has<br>proven itself as valid as some say. Look at this analogy: "dependant on<br>the difference between all of our systems and their operations, if you make<br>a mistake with the brain, there's no turning back to correct any damage<br>done." Think about it.<br><br>irvkay312<br>

@jennsprung Thank you for your info - I am in FL where they have not<br>passed the laws yet. I would not know how to get hold of anything and<br>asking for a prescription I will think about, but those meds are very<br>expensive. You explained it for me, however. It would be the sublingual I<br>would need when it gets thru our legislature. from @ladyjane85<br><br>

It is currently legal in 5 States. Colorado, Washington, Alaska, Oregon and California for medicinal use. You would need to look into each state individually to see how it works as there will be different rules for procurement. I'm in Canada- our laws are different here. A script is required, and then you wait for an official licence from the government. Then it has to be purchased from a licenced repository. You can't just buy it from the street corner.

I certainly do not have your level of knowledge about marijuana I thought the different types were just from different countries. It just has my experience that when I did have stomach pains or cramps the marijuana helped
