Chose not to get breast reconstruction

Posted by detzler @detzler, Jul 11, 2016

Hi to all the women out there! I was diagnosed with breast cancer, stage 1, 11 months ago. I am 59 years old. I had a right breast mastectomy and chose to not get breast reconstruction. The prosthesis I was given is hot and uncomfortable so I am finding that I do not use it. Anyone else have this difficulty? I have recently moved and need to start all over with a new oncologist. How do I choose one?

You are so welcome. I hope they work as well for you as they have for me. The website is interesting. You can get one with or without a nipple. Good luck! Fondly, Gaye

Yes, this is the website and it has the directions to make them. The woman who made mine used a very fine and soft cotton in a pale yellow. There are many choices of sizes and colors. They are wonderful!

We have moved from Pennsylvania to northwest Ohio. I am closest to the town of Findlay, Ohio. I am currently checking medical reviews for the oncologists located in Findlay. I will also check into all the sites all of you told me about!

I recently (Nov 2022) had bilateral and chose to go flat. Now that I'm healed I'm looking at breast prothesis and found there are different kinds. I'm looking to see what other's experiences are with the prothesis. I live in So. Calif. so our weather is warm - I'm probably only going to wear them when I desire shaping for special occasions. I've been flat since Nov and am pretty comfortable going out flat in public. I've also already made myself some knittedknockers; but need a mastectomy bra so I can wear them.

Please let me hear you experience in what you looked for when obtaining the breast forms and what your experience has been in wearing them.

Thank you
