@bevo I surely can empathize with you. How old are you if you do not mind my asking. What is the doctor suggesting for pain management? My scoliosis pain has worsened. My pain is mostly in my head neck and shoulders. I also have DDD in my cervical and lumbar region. I recently had several facet joint injections in the cervical. I am allergic to all steroids so the pain specialist is using a numbing agent to find out which nerves are affecting the pain the most and possibly cauterize the nerves for longer relief. I still have a lot of pain but the injections have given me some relief.

I'm 68. I like the suggestion to 'possibly' cauterize the nerves. My hip doesn't have nerve pain however. I have numbness/tingling on the other leg from jamming a nerve in the groin I injured while bicycling. Neurologist said to correct that would take 'extraordinary' efforts, so I'm living with that for now. Still looking what to do about the hip pain from scoliosis. Meanwhile, I suspect this is what eventually kills a person... living with intractable issues to the point where the body gives up! Thanks for the comments. Have you ever found a good chiropractor? (when they are exceptionally skilled, they seem to alleviate any problem). Also, have you found a good physical therapist that has made helpful exercise suggestions? It's very tough figuring out how to 'manage' chronic pain. I have some DJD in my spine (lumbar) too. The only pain med I take is Advil (or Motrin 800mg I break in half sometimes- was from a dentist) when it's too uncomfortable. What about you? I went to a pain specialist once and refused opioids.

Hi. I'm Jean. In past 2 years my scoliosis has worsened. Neurologist said it would get worse. It started with hip bone pain so I can no longer sleep on that side. Even sleeping on back is getting painful to butt. When pregnant, I lost ability to sleep on stomach; but now I'm back to that to get sleep when sleeping on other side fails.

Hi!
Welcome to our group, you have come to the right place.
We are here to help and support you any way we can.
I am sorry you are have issues.

Times have changed regarding the use of opioids and the new legal parameters the government has set.
Therefore, I think that doctors need to be more 'creative' with treatments since they can no longer just write the script.
You might want to think about trying a pain doc again, since opioids are off the table.
You might also want to try to find a good massage therapist who is trained to work on patients with 'real' back problems.

Good luck!

I agree. What I found with taking all those pills is that they may take care of one set of problems but they cause a whole set of new problems in another part of your body either at the same time or a time down the road. Better to try therapy that is active/passive that goes right to the source of the pain. Massage, heat/cold, and even using exercise like elastic bands that the therapists can show you how to us. When I have pain down my legs, I get our my bands and use them with my ankles and also get on my bed and do my hip exercises. Within the day my pain disappears. If we aren't sitting tall in our chairs, walking tall or moving enough in our day, as well as drinking enough water - our bodies tell us that something is NOT right. IT IS time to do something to rectify the problem. A physical therapist can show and tell you what you can do about the aches and pain you feel through the day with different parts of the body. I bet I have a volume of all of their exercises and every colored band in my house that helps me do my exercises and get through all of my surgeries through the years so that I can be flexible, bend and stretch and do the things to take care of my house hold. It's not to say I don't have aches and pains yet - I do but that's par for the course. I am aging and still trip, knock into things, bruise and do stupid things. But I still move my body because my body was made to move and not sit/lie still. There's too much life out there and I have today to check it out! And so do you.

My suggestions is NO pills - they will only cause more problems in the end. [Advil for women will escalate osteoporosis; and elevate hearing loss] Instead ask for a referral to see a physical therapist/occupational therapist for exercises that can be done on land/water (pool) Don't forget to have them show you the elastic bands. These you take home and use daily. They need to be done on a regular basis because they are you pain pills. They help strengthen you muscles and keep you strong and agile.
Chiropractors are good for only a while and then you need to stop because you bones become brittle and break (osteoporosis). Then the threat of strokes plays in and this no longer is a feasible choice. I had too many and nearly died from an adjustment....my neurologist put an end to them...permanently. I use the bands instead. And my severe osteoporosis from using NSAIDS for too long brought me back to the bands also. I am healing my brittle bones with injections Prolia at the doctors office and hope to reverse the back things I did with all those pills. The one thing I can't reverse is my tinnitus and hearing loss.

My name in Mona. I have lived with chronic pain for many years. I feel like nobody believes me, understands, or cares. I’m only 56 years old and I hate being told it’s all in my head or I’m just looking for more medications. I worked in different areas of the health care field for over 30 years and I promise I could do more with my money than buy meds or suffer through embarrassing appointments. Blinking my eyes or snapping fingers hasn't worked. I feel hopeless.
