@19lin May I ask what nationalities tend to be offended easily? This is probably something in their culture. I ask because right now I have doctors of many nationalities. So far I would consider most to be pretty open, except for my PCP who is an American of Italian descent. He's very American but I figure being an American male may be what makes him think he knows everything. I really do not mean to male-bash but I just find that to be true in my experience.

I was just at my long time PT person. He said he has a number of people that I've been doing stem cell therapy. One man just flew to Spain because they will use bone marrow and replicate the cells which apparently is illegal in this country. He said that one of the things he seen the most from benefit besides the back, is the knees.

I absolutely had gotten to the point where they were hurting me. I'm living proof of it. And I am in no joke I was very serious pain patient. Many many broken bones many many surgeries. Two serious accidents that have affected my neck my back my lower back and my left shoulder. I've been on pain medication in various doses for years and they've been changed to try to be more effective. You do eventually, maybe not everyone, but most people hit a brick wall. They no longer work, you have to take more and more, you feel like a zombie and they affect your G.I. tract to the point where I wasn't able to even eat a meal anymore I would throw it up. Please people don't discounts how you would feel if you are on pain pills every single day and multiple types, how you would feel if you got off alarms. Believe it or not my pain is less and much more tolerable. It's there I know it, But I'm trying to present a positive picture here not a negative one. I'm finding ways to deal with this but I didn't even know existed or had barely tried. And when I did try them I was on so much medication that they didn't stand a chance of working. I know where my injuries are I can still feel them, but they are less intense and their pain and are now being controlled by injections. I'm just trying to be helpful.

Hi to all. I am 72 Y.O. and have 3 different forms of Arthritis - including Psoriatic Arth. Dx'd about 5 yrs. ago. I retired 6 months ago, in part, to better attend to physical therapy and exercises more consistently. I am allergic to NSAIDs and thus limited to either Tylenol or Opiate category meds. for pain. I have a variety of hobbies which I will be able to get more into now. There are various other medical issues which impact each other and contributes to some depression. Without Methotrexate and Enbrel I would not be able to function, I could hardly open my car door prior to those medications. I live in the metro-Chicago area and have limited ability to walk on the driveway when it is icy/slippery in Winter and my wife is left with doing the snow removal (she's younger than I am). I help when I can, which varies according to the whims of my conditions. I hope all the readers/members of this group find the support, help and relief they seek.

Hello @smiles2016, welcome to Mayo Connect! Thank you for sharing with us. I think you are taking some good steps with the physical therapy and exercises. At our age that is extremely important - you have to keep moving. Connect is a great place to ask health related questions and hopefully get answers from folks with similar health issues.

Do you have any questions you would like to ask the other Connect members?

John

@smiles2016 Hi, I hope the medications you can take help you to feel consistently better. I too am limited to what I can take, basically just tylenol unless something happens that causes acute pain. Let's face it, Tylenol is not the the greatest help, yet it is better than nothing on those nights when my knees are throbbing from too much exercise -- one was replaced a few years ago and the other is scheduled to be done in October.
If your knees are part of your arthritic problem has anyone suggested a knee replacement? I am bone-on-bone so need it really. Since it is not until October I plan to make some appointments for the series of three synvisc shots.
My husband has to do most of the heavy work, and he is not younger than I am, he was 82 yesterday. He is amazing for his age though.
I lived in Chicago for about 4 months on assignment when I was single, in an apartment hotel on the street next to the John Hancock, a couple of blocks closer to the lake. I loved it there and anytime you are on an expense account it makes it very simple. It was a fun city for a single person.
