Post Traumatic Stress Disorder & Severe Anxiety...

Posted by Roxie43 @roxie43, May 26, 2012

Have you been diagnosed with PTSD? Are you experiencing enormous amounts of added stresses that exacerbate your condition and make you feel anxious all the time?
PTSD is a medical disorder that sadly has profound effects on the individuals life. I recently found out, by one of my provider's that panic attacks can even occur when we are sleeping. I never knew this but it explained why I get up in the middle of the night feeling like my breathing has stopped and I need air. I sleep with a fan in my face year round for aging reasons so I'm getting plenty of air. I also participated in a sleep study to ensure that I did not have Sleep Apnea but I don't.
Waking up like this is very scary and at times I'm afraid of falling asleep. I'm glad that I mentioned it to one of my psychiatrists because not knowing what was happening was inducing even more discomfort and anxiety.
When we are the victims of traumatic experiences and/ or are re-traumatized life can become so uncomfortable but please keep in mind that; If, we were strong enough to survive the traumatic experience/s we are all the more powerful in our continued efforts to heal!
Our faith will be tested as well as our self worth but don't waiver my friends because we are survivors and this too will be an opportunity for us to show just how passionate we are about deserving meaningful lives.
Hugs,
Roxie ~

My eldest made me proud today. She has been free of cigarettes for a week. She's turning 29 on June 1st and wanted to begin living healthier for my grandson and she.
You always help Annie.

I think it is best to seek treatments to eliminate the panic attacks caused by PTSD. The treatments I found most helpful were: neurofeedback and neuro-calming; LENS, low energy neuro stimulation; and EMDR, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. I know of an excellent psychologist and practitioner in the East Bay near San Francisio. Don't settle for handling your panic attacks-eliminate them.

Hi Piglit,
There should be this form of treatment everywhere I'm thinking. It would be nice to eliminate vs. reducing the attacks.

You know Rox that I'm not sure about me. As you know I have suffered anxiety from a very young age and depression later. I have not been sleeping well and have been waking as you have mentioned . I know panic well and I woke up the other night after an absolute nightmare in total panic and couldn't get back to sleep. I have not slept properly for days on end. My faith never really falters as you know it's just tested alot sometimes. I have had added stresses asyou know. I know that we are survivors, I have spend a lifetime surviving Hugs Piglit

Is anyone taking trazodone/Desyrel? I can't take it anymore as I had an allergic response, but my Shrink advised to take it with food at bedtime, not because it is hard on your tummy but because it slows down the absorption and lets you sleep longer
