urinary tract infection/severe

Posted by branflake @branflake, Aug 16, 2011

My 12 year old grandson was put into the hospital 3 days ago due to severe urinary tract infection. The Dr. says it is very unusual for a boy and of his age to have this severity. I have looked at causes, but don't understand really what causes this in a preteen. ?

If he's at Mayo your chances of finding a solution are very good. My daughter went thru something similiar 3 years ago (severe kidney infection) and it's hard watching them go through this. Best thing you can do is be there for support and let them know you love them. Hang in there.

Thank you for your response. The pain he has suffered just shook us all up! We had no idea what was wrong. He was shaking as if he was terribly cold, he could hold no food down, he could barely sleep althoug being extremely tired. The Dr was just surprised that a boy his age would not have told us all he was hurting while urinating...he only casually mentioned it the day we took him in. Again, thank you for your response. How long did your daughter go through this? Has she had it since. I hope she did not.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandson. I turn 36 soon, and from what I understand, it's very unusual for a male younger than 50 to have even one urinary tract infection. And I've had five of them in 11 years. Any word on what caused your grandson's UTI?
