Phenibut for anxiety, sleep

Posted by clutch @clutch, Dec 1, 2019

Aminophenylbutyric acid (Phenibut) is sold legally on-line as an anxiolytic and sleep aid. There can be toxic and tolerance side effects, as I read about its use. Also reviews are mixed as to effectiveness.
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience they can share?

Hi @clutch, I'm just catching up with this discussion. It's important to note that phenibut is not an FDA-approved medication and has no clinical use in the U.S. Although not approved in the U.S., phenibut is available as a supplement from many online stores and e-commerce sites. However, this does not mean it is legal online. This FDA article explains the black, white and grey area of ordering drugs and supplements online.

Thanks to the link to the FDA article on importing medications that are not approved by the FDA. Is there a publcation from Health Canada on phenibut?

@lisalucier, Thanks for the response and the link. Phenibut is available as a "supplement" from a well-known on-line vitamin site, so importing it is not in question. And, why would it be different than many of the other supplements sold here that have no FDA restrictions?
What I'm concerned about is it's safety and effectiveness, thus asking the membership here about their experience.
Any thoughts or comments from anyone is appreciated.

Hi, @victorkach - I realize you joined Connect a bit back, but wanted to welcome you. Wondering if you have experienced any challenges with sleep?
