Recovery after having a dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) surgery

Posted by lilllese1967 @lilllese1967, Mar 3, 2019

Hi ,
Was curious how your recovery went after having a DCR eye surgery for Cronic Dry Eye's. As only in my left eye had this done as external. This pass Mon Feb 25 th, so far everything is going well as most swelling is down and no issues has arrised . I did not have to have my nose gauzed as hardly bleed during , so was thankfull for this .
I will go back in 3 months to remove the stents. As now to try hard not to blow my nose etc and get to 10 days than follow rest of restrictions. Has anybody had any issues or things I should know and how have your results been ?
I was told I won't notice much till after that . But I have not had and watering from my eyes yet. So any info etc..greatly appreciated 😊

Hi @lilllese1967, welcome to Connect. I'm glad to hear that so far so good with the results of your surgery. I did a quick search to try and find other members who had had dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) surgery, but didn't find any (yet). However, I bet @fancyrph and @ryman will be interested in learning from your experience.

Lilllese, was your dry eye condition caused by blocked tear ducts?

Hi ,
Cronic Dry eyes as than after 2 years of using drops , steroids and restatious. Nothing was going to help , so this was the next option . Had few Dr.s here where I live , but never once mention blocked tears ducts or having this done.
As no one hete did this as well .
So we went to Mayo to have a 3rd oppinion . And tried few things and new plugs were not the answer . As a DCR was the option , so we decided it was gonna be worth it . And we new we were in great hands through Mayo surgerns etc...
As they saved my husband 5 years ago . In a very serious life situation.
So yes all came down to a DCR surgery .

Hi ,
Heres a few pictures of each day as Sat was starting to taper down . Limitations are for first 10 days , No makeup , ice it hourly, no lifting or bending and no blowing your nose for first month , than lightly till the stents are removed . And no picking , Tylenol works for the minium pain as I take Hydrocodone already for Fibromyalgia. So sure that helps to . First few days are uneasy as your nose feels very dry or plugged light dripping . So I already purchase a small humidifier for our room . Helps and its not overly bad recovery for myself . As They didnt have to pack my nose due to low bleeding during the surgery. So sure big pluss , as I also use a ointment for the scar for the first week too .
I've been Constant with following the restrictions as I dont want issues or have to drive 6 hours to go back .
So thought I would share a not so pretty pictures as if your curious as I would be too . Only thing is , these pictures goes sideways, trying to figure how to straighten them. Hmmmm
P.S.

I have not had any watering since , as they say I will till stents are removed . Than I'll know how well the surgery went . So I figure bye summer , will be the time .😊 Looking forward to not being a " big cry babie " anymore 😉😪
Last picture was taken yesterday
( Sunday ) As today it's a week that I had my surgery .

I never sent or posted any pictures so I don't know what you are speaking about. I never had any dry eye surgery in either eye. I think you are looking for someone else. Good luck.

Has your scar disappeared? I just had surgery two weeks ago and my incision looks so big that I am afraid that it won't heal correctly.

I’m having the tear duct surgery on Feb. 14. Little nervous about it and recovery.

I am anxious to hear about the tear duct surgery after you recover. My dry eye syndrome is so bad I can't read like I used to. Good luck!
