Covid vaccine & breast cancer: Are you getting it ASAP or waiting?

I'm no longer in chemo, if that's what you mean by "active" treatment, but I put off my second vaccination by nine weeks since I tend to react to most pharmacology. I also read the following article which may or may not be good guidance:

It notes that "a multinational study found that the first dose of the Moderna vaccine had 80% efficacy and that a delay of 9-12 weeks "could enhance the program effectiveness and prevent additional infections, hospitalizations, and deaths, compared to a 4-week interval between the doses."

Yes, by active I mean taking chemotherapy or radiation. Also, thank you for your response and the article.

Honestly, I've just kept living my life as pretty normal except for the occasional grocery store trip that required a mask. We've had gatherings for b-days/holidays. I plan on waiting for the vaccine because my over-all condition is quite good for stage 4 and I consider even the vaccine to be a risk to that.

I've got the first one under my belt. April 16 is when I'll get the second. My doctor's office called and asked if I wanted the vaccine. Two days later I'm in their office. I had COVID in November, spent two days in the hospital and none of it was fun! I'm trying to do all I can to prevent it from happening again. That is interesting about the study about 4 weeks versus 9 - 12 weeks. I'm going to ask my doctor about that! I wouldn't recommend the virus to anyone - we did everything right - masks when going out ( which was rare), social distancing, washing hands. It slipped into my husband's work, and within 10 days he had it, as well as I. His symptoms were different though and had no lung issues. Thank heavens for the Remesidvir and the donated blood plasma/antibobies because they worked! Thanks for reading my book 🙂 Good luck with your decision!

AbsoluItely. I go on the 19th and not sure when the second one is. We are in Canada, and have up to a four month wait. I am recieving Pfizer.

Yes I have had both 1st and 2nd Vaccines..

I got lucky and received the Pfizer vaccine. I’ve gotten both the first and second shots, with no side effects at all. I’m certainly counting my blessings that it was so easy for me!!

I had both the first and second Pfizer vaccine. My second dose was April 10. Luckily, no side effects. I had my first chemo treatment April 15. My Mayo oncologist was perfectly comfortable with this, and said they are advising patients to get the COVID-19 vaccines even if actively in the midst of chemo. I am triple negative, but stage one. Good luck!

I received my 2nd Pfizer vaccine two days ago. I am on Ibrance for bc mets and so had to wait 4 weeks because of the cycle. 3 weeks on and one week off to build up your immune system. Did have 24 hours with flu like conditions with fever. But feeling better and glad I received it as I do have a lower immune system now
