Vaccine Availability through Mayo Clinic Portal Notification

Posted by tiggyboo @tiggyboo, Mar 27, 2021

I was notified via the patient portal that I was eligible for a vaccine a few weeks back, but I was unable to do it because I happened to be on a short course of prednisone for a hearing problem. Since then I've heard eligibility is opening up, and most of my younger (I'm a 64 year old Mayo employee with a pre-existing condition) friends with no pre-existing conditions have already had both doses. Most people I know seem to be surprised that I haven't been vaccinated yet. Other than subscribing to all the local vaccine locater/trackers, checking the Mayo patient portal every day and getting on the employee waiting lists, is there something else I should be doing?

I gave up on Mayo in Feb. There never notified me and I checked daily. I am 67 with active stage IV cancer. My healthy 50 year neighbor got called to Mayo. Go figure. I went to Walmart after registering online. Very disappointed in Mayo.

Since you are a Mayo employee & patient, I suggest contacting Employee Health and/or HR for assistance.

@seaspray Hi....just signed up and set appt at Walmart for Rob. He's 52, age is down to 40! Today, everyone must have gotten a shipment of vaccines....CVS, Walmart, Publix, and I've been getting emails from Baptist Health to get my shots, Amazing. Rob will ge this April 1. I really can't understand the situation with your shot and Mayo. Makes such little sense. Will chat soon. blesings, elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth! No one, even my doctor's understand what happened with Mayo. But I too received both shots from Walmart and thankful I was able to so safely. Glad to hear Rob is getting his. My son refuses!

The site you posted has been up for months. My oncologist did not want me going into public facilities so I waited for Mayo. When they started calling patients under 65 with no underlying health conditions I gave up and went against my doctor's recommendations.

Where vaccines are distributed varies from state to state. Mayo Clinic follows vaccine eligibility criteria as directed by state health departments, which will continue to allocate all vaccine supplies. Vaccine distribution is opening up, with access to anyone over age 16 in Minnesota and Arizona and anyone over age 40 in Florida.

I am going to Mayo Jax in May. By then we should be able to find out how they distributed. We are ahead of many states here in FL and our Governor DeSantis will be opening all age groups very soon. People with special circumstances can contact the Health Dept. directly.

@jeanne5009 , @seaspray, @colleenyoung Hello, all.....Some bits of info.

Gov. DeSantis, Fl, lowered the vaccine age to 40, few days ago. my son is 52 disabled, so I went on-line yesterday and vaccinations are available to be scheduled at - CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, Publix etc. All had appts so I scheduled him for April 1 at nearby Walmart. Today he rec'd email from Mayo to ck his portal. I did, with him, and we scheduled him appt for April 1 at 1:40. Preferred Mayo....So, Fl apparently got a bunch of vaccines delivered!!!

Special circumstances w/doc letter anyone is scheduled. I saw all 3 vaccines available, don't know which he will get.at Mayo.

This is all such good news for so many. It will help my son a lot since he's disabled and has been going through a very tough time the last few months. This will help his fears of covid.19....he's simply afraid of the world at this point, so, this is one thing he can cross off his mental list. I imagine there are a lot of folks feeling much the same.

Well, that's what I know at this point. Blessings all, elizabeth
