COVID vaccines and neuropathy

Posted by cue @cue, Feb 15, 2021

I am 85 with small fiber neuropathy that is getting worse. My neurologist thought it would be a good idea for me to wait with the covid vaccine and not be first in line to see how it affected other people with neuropathy. Probably because it is a new technology. Has anyone had a problem with neuropathy after receiving the vaccine? If so, which vaccine?

There is a member, joeyd5641 that posted about the supplements and that is where I got the information. Let me direct you to that person. I have no direct knowledge about these supplements as of yet so It seems better you get the information from someone who knows a bit about them. I believe it was just yesterday, so if you scroll up on the replies you should find it.

Hello, I am trying to find people with chemo-induced neuropathy who have had the Covid vaccine. I have the peripheral neuropathy in my feet and legs.

If you have had a vaccine, can you tell me which type and whether or not it made your neuropathy worse?

Hi. I don't know if this can help you. As a result from chemo, I had that issue with my face. Nothing could touch it, couldn't even wear glasses for many many months. Eventually it solved itself to occasional minimal discomfort This was five years ago. I took the first pfizer shot in February. I now non only have problems back with my face, I also have burning in my legs, at times in my arms, some tingling in my hands and different part of the body. After much anguish I decided not to take the second shot. Personally, if I had to do it again I would have tried the J & J vaccine, I understand every case is different, unfortunately I wasn't that lucky. Good luck to you whatever you decide.

They said I can take Lyrica or Elavil & those both have really bad side effects. I have a very delicate stomach bc of adhesions from a surgeries so I have to be careful what I take. I live in 5 pain range all the time. My big toe hurts & feet & legs & they don't know why I have this condition. I also have pancreatic problems where I have high level of lipase & amylace. I'm just a mess. I love this support group bc I learn so much from other people.
Thank you John. Do you know of any other meds than what I said?
Thanks for your help.

Has anyone here with neuropathy gotten the J and J vaccine? I suffer with neuropathy. After reading some of the posts on here, I was terrified of taking the Pfizer shot and making it worse.

Hi Emily- I received both Moderna vaccine shots with little to no side effects on the Peripheral Neuropathy in my left leg. The second and last shot was 10 days ago. My pre-vaccine concerns were the same as yours. Hope this information is useful and passes the Mayo censorship team. Have a great day. Dave

Hello @emily75. I can see you are interested in connecting with members to learn about their experience with the J&J vaccine. You will notice that I have moved your post into an existing discussion where you, along with other members, have been connecting to discuss the different vaccines and neuropathy. I am hoping this will allow you to connect with more members more quickly.

Based on where you are located and where you can get the vaccine, is selecting the vaccine type an option for you?

I can get Pfizer at most places. J and J is more difficult to find.
