Anyone have issues with Metformin 500mg after Metformin EX recall?

Posted by sue44 @sue44, Jan 8, 2021

I have diabetic type 2, I was taking Metformin EX for years and that was perfect for me. my blood sugar and A1C good. (6.2) Morning acc check 98 to100. There was a recall on that drug, so my doctor started me on Metformin 500mg twice a day. now, since I been taking the Metformin 500 mg and my morning acc check is 68 to 81. I think I am taking too much medication. I exercise 30 mins a day and eat healthy stay away from a lot of sweets. Does anyone have this problem with this drug?

From my experience and my careful eating, I don't see any reason why you need to be taking two Metformin a day. You are controlling your numbers to a normal range with diet and exercise and that is very good in my view. Why take a two pills if one is enough? Metformin is not a cure but an aid to blood sugar control, and if you have normal numbers, you body is working well without so much medicine. I am down to one pill a day and if I do more exercise this spring and summer and eat from my garden i think I will be successful at dropping the Metformin. Some doctors prefer easy answers so they prescribe meds because they don't think we will discipline our eating well enough. The exercise is a big plus to your health. Dorisena

Thanks, I will check with my doctor in the morning to see what she said about me taking just one 500mg of Metformin a day.
