Anyone participating in the Tapestry DNA Sequencing Research?

Posted by dazlin @dazlin, Oct 19, 2020

if you have volunteered or declined to participate, I'd like to here your thoughts. I was on the fence, very undecided, yet I decided to go ahead to do it. I have a few low grade health problems im dealing with , and really dont want to hear anymore. That said, I realize this testing may be of great value at some point. Also its strictly voluntary and can be declined at anytime. I sent mine in today.
Whats your thoughts??

Hi @paula3166, Welcome to Connect. I also received the ancestry part of the test last week and was told to expect the health part within the next 4 weeks. On a good note, I was pleased to see the detailed ancestry report which showed some 2 unexpected trace origins of 1.7% so the ancestry details were much better than the first Mayo Clinic GeneGuide study I purchased.

I found the ancestry interesting I was 80% what I expected but my dad was adopted and that showed some very interesting traits. I only had one trace element below 3% most of mine were 8% or better. I will be curious if the genetics part comes in soon as I have a planned procedure at Mayo early April.

I did the Tapestry study, I'm waiting for my results. Has anybody been in for genetic counselling based upon the results?

@johnbishop Hello, John and all the Tapestry Study folks. Just ckg in with you to see if you got your email yet with the health results. I haven't, altho I do have the rest, with ancestry/traits/etc. What fun and interesting information. Most of the ancestry part is on target with what I already knew, but I did learn more and some specifics that will lead me to other information. I've always been interested in history and ancestry; find it fascinating.
Anyone know anything re timeframe?

Hope you are all making it through this cold and seeing signs of new life! We are in Florida....in the high 70's now, so I think our Spring is about here. Have a little nest in my mailbox! Lots of flowers in baskets on my patio and I do love them. Blessings to all. elizabeth

@ess77 good morning. I got my medical part back already. They only test for 3 things. Nothing in depth like I was thinking they would. Good luck and have a good day. Tammy

Hi Elizabeth @ess77, I received my Tapestry Study final results back with the medical DNA stuff a few weeks ago. Fortunately or unfortunately (not sure 🙂) I didn't learn anything new from that perspective. I did get a much more detailed ancestry info that I did with my previous 2 tests - the Genes For Good project - https://genesforgood.sph.umich.edu/ and the Mayo Clinic GeneGuide which is no longer available.

I sent mine in about December. No results yet, I asked about the delay, they said supplies aren't available due to covid. Maybe they're out of QTips? - lol

When do you get the medical? I got traits and ancestry two months ago but not the medical. Were you positive for any of them? I am trying to understand why I haven’t received my medical ones yet seems like a really long time for mine.

I will ask you the same question I asked another response. How long between the traits and ancestry did you get medical? I got traits and ancestry about two months ago but no medical. Were you positive on any of the genes they tested? I am trying to understand what is the reason for such a long wait. I sent sample last October. Helix delivered them to Mayo at end of January.
