Nebulizing Equipment

Posted by alleycatkate @alleycatkate, Apr 20, 2020

Hi all....Does anyone know if the Neb Kits are interchangeable with different Nebulizing Compressors? I have a Drive Compressor and would like to try the Pari Neb kit for my compressor but I am not sure if it would fit. Seems that it would be interchangeable since it is just a connecting tube from the compressor to the kit. I'd need to get my GP to write a script so I don't want to get it wrong. Thanks for any thoughts.

Huge question on time it takes: I use Pari Vios Pro. Neb 4ml of 7% saline twice a day. Each time takes 25 minutes. Gwen Huitt is my doctor at National Jewish. They expect it to take this long. What am I missing? How could the saline be delivered in 2 or 5 minutes?

margiebanks.…. are you saying you use pari for albuterol, saline and toby????

@auntnanny yes and no. The Pari you speak of, I did use it for albuterol and saline. Then I started on Arikayce which has a different mouthpiece and compresser, also made by Pari, and I now use that for nebbing Arikayce and saline. Hope my answer is helpful and not more confusing.

Hi Margie @margiebanks! Thanks for your reply. And it was just the perfect length...lol. No, it was interesting to find that you get your saline done in 2 minutes...Wow! That is really fast. I thought my new Pari mouthpiece was a lot faster than the old mouthpiece but I think it takes maybe 8 minutes instead of 12 or 13 with the old one. Wonder if that is because I do not have a Pari compressor.?? Sorry, you missed your races. Hope we will get back to something that looks like normal soon. Best to you, Kate

@alleycatkate it is fast, so fast I thought maybe slower would be better and have time to settle into my lungs better, That's when I called the number on the Pari Nebulizing System and was told by that company that's the correct amount of time, delivering saline, using that particular equipment. I researched it and its and expensive! Before that I used the Pari and a regular Sunset compressor and it took about 12-15 min, like you say.

margiebanks.…. thank you and yes. I don't know what Arikayce is for. I'm not improving with Tobramycin and am thinking I need to try something else. I deal with tremendous hard coughing -- lots of phlegm and pseudomonas. What is Arikayce for?

@auntnanny I have been on the Big 3 off and on since 2016. Because my MAC is not responding, has gotten significantly worse, and I have difficulty with the three meds, I have been put in a clinical trial with Arikayce plus the other meds. You only have to be able to tolerate two. Arikayce is an inhaled MAC med with the thought being there will be fewer side effects with a med going straight to one’s lungs. irene5

auntnanny. Arikayce is a liposome antibiotic Amikacin that is specifically for MAC. Because it is delivered as a liposome, it is delivered directly to the receptors in the lungs and it bypasses the systemic type of reaction that would naturally occur if one was taking oral meds or even intravenous meds. That is why it was recommended for me because of heart rhythm condition that I have. This medication still has many side effects for which it needs to be carefully monitored, but thankfully heart rhythm is not one of them.
