Visual Escapes and Daily Inspirations: Share Yours

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Mar 16, 2020

Let's create a space to offer a daily reprieve.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty and fear into our lives. Some of that fear and uncertainty can be caused by over thinking what is going on or unnecessarily worrying. So, I'm making sure I wash my hands frequently, not touching my face, staying away from social gatherings and all of the recommended guidelines to help avoid getting or spreading COVID-19 but it can be a little boring. I try to not watch news all day long while I'm in this self imposed captivity. I like to take pictures of birds and other creatures from my window as a welcome break.

I invite you to join me in sharing pictures, favorite poems, sayings, mottos, funny moments. Let's take a daily break together.

Well, the sun is out, it's about 33 degrees outside and it's looking like it's time to refill the bird feeder. They do seem to love the peanut suet nuggets. Happy Thursday to all those hunkered down with loved ones. May your day be full of life's beautiful paintings where ever you find them. This was one of mine that reminded me that my glass is half full and not half empty! -- although his glass is looking mighty empty now 🙂

Good morning fellow re-sectioners (and you lookey lous) From the shores of Lake Sacajewea in Longview, Washington, Virgo 1952 brings you “A” photo of wildlife (John, I did it! A square photo, who knew!!!) I had several more, but haven’t mastered loading multiple photos yet☹️ But, I love a challenge. @lioness no ducklings yet, but I , virgo, will remain diligent in my walks scoping out my surroundings in hopes of seeing a duck family gliding through lake water or snacking on a nearby shore. I have come across heron, a lot of turtles, and one early evening a bald eagle slammed into the water and rose with a silvery trout in it’s talons. Oh yes, that bald eagle scared the crap out of me (colon joke!)🤣🤣🤣) Stay tuned people. More to come. Virgo 1952 forever diligent in my quest. (hey John, is there a way to download multiple photos at one time????) thank you sir. Have a great day Everyone 😀

Yikes! Talk about a rude awakening. Just looked out the window and it is snowing to beat the band along with wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph. Go away already!!! It's the 9th of April...and the birds have found a place to hunker down until this blows over hopefully around 2 pm this afternoon.

@johnbishop Remember John, last year we had a blizzard on April 10th (I remember because we were driving through it!) Extremes though, it is going to be 95F here today - but I'm not going to complain, we are safe, warm and able to stay busy!
Hope to post a new "Inspiration" later - have been asked for surgical caps by RN daughter and neighbor here - got some great prints & getting ready to do a trial run.

Mean eye's name is Oreo. I found her about 15 years or so ago in a local vet hospital on a pedestal with 2 other kittens. I was there working on one of their computers and saw her - the runt of the litter. She was so unusual looking and when I picked her up she purred and I was hooked. Called the wife and took her home the same day. Funny thing after a week or so I got several calls asking me if I still wanted to keep her as 3 or 4 other folks came back and also wanted her. She's the only cat I've ever been able to teach how to play fetch although when she got tired she would just drop the trinket we were using and walk away. 🙂

@sueinmn I do remember the blizzard last year on April 10th...Sema picked up my garden tractor with snowblower and lawnmower deck to switch them over a few days before the blizzard. Fortunately I didn't need it for the snow...was able to let it melt. Glad to hear you are warm & safe!

Funny story I know you will appreciate - my wife got off the phone with her twin sister who is still down there in the park and some of them have their own definition of social distancing. Evidently a larger group gathered in one of the units yards and were socializing but I'm not sure how close when a small drone hovered overhead for a few minutes and then left. I came back a little while later and hovered again and went away. The next day every unit in the park got a cease and desist letter to stay in your own unit. According to her sister it seems like they are all finally taking things seriously.

She was the first one that I saw with a split face but I've seen a lot more since I got her. Evidently it's not so unusual with Tortie's.
