Isolation: How Do We Handle it?

Posted by Teresa, Volunteer Mentor @hopeful33250, Mar 16, 2020

As boundaries are being mandated in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, these boundaries are affecting every area of our lives. Many hospitals, assisted living facilities, places of worship, libraries, restaurants, community centers are being closed to visitors and public gatherings. For many of us, these keep us from our typical ways of connecting with others and engaging with a supportive community.

What are you doing to keep yourself connected?

I really dont go anywhere. I have for many years now have just go to work and then home, i dont feel comfortable out in public around alot of people. Thats a little weird for me, because i loved being out in public around people. I was an extrovert and now im completely opposite, but i have internet and alot of devices to keep me connected.

@tmvickery, Hi, TM, like you, I'm primarily staying connected through phone and internet.

As time passes during this pandemic I have to keep reminding myself that although my state is wide open, I still need to practice stay home restrictions because neither my health issues nor age have changed...except the age is creeping up to the next yearly celebration. vbg Texas was one of the first to reopen and now is being reported among 6 states with the highest increases in Covid numbers.

Where do you live? Are people observing distancing measures or behaving more like life has returned to the normal before the pandemic?

I haven't seen a post from you for awhile and am wondering how you are doing? Are things opening up more where you live?

With warmer weather and more sunshine, I stay outside taking walks and working in my yard. Are you spending more time with diversions or hobbies than you were before? I stopped all media news for over a week following the riots and found it improved my morale. Only last night did I turn on the local and national news for an update.

Hi, I'm glad you checked on me.... has been a kinda upset week. I went to see a surgeon and of course he sain no surgery, I knew it before I saw him. I'm too much of a risk....So next my oncologist called and said how about radiation? I said ok, so they are setting it up and will call me when and where to go. Even though i'm 88 I would have liked to have the surgery, the cancer could have been gone. (if i made it through the surgery) which i don't know if i would have made it through. So guess will see how much the radiation cand do. Thanks a bunch! shortshot/nancy

Glad you checked in @shortshot80. Understand your disappointment that surgeon said no to surgery but glad that your oncologist recommended radiation as a treatment. So many reports of how that can reduce tumors and even successfully eradicate them completely at times. Hope you keep us informed on how things progress for you.

@shortshot80 Hi Nancy:

I am glad to hear that radiation is still an option for you. Did you have the CT scan yet? Will you let me know when you begin the radiation?
