Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Posted by Becky, Volunteer Mentor @becsbuddy, Feb 19, 2020

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?

Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Yes I remember the Alaska quake 7.5. Do you remember the 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 and the 6.7 earthquake in Coalinga in 1983? The Loma Prieta quake did minor damage it cracked a wall and some plaster fell out of an archway in my dining room.

Smiles

@lioness. I'm doing fine, all things considered. I told my friends everyday is like ground hog day. Still going for my walks everyday, 40 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the late afternoon. By that time, my leg and back are begging for a time out. I need a good massage and some physical therapy. Been going to TJ once every three weeks, there are stuff I can't get everywhere. I'm still getting my veggies box delivered every other Sunday. The veggies are picked the same morning and it's amazing how great they are. They really taste how vegetables are supposed to taste. I had some wonderful tomatoes, my son brought me some bacon so I can have a BLT sandwich!! That's why I'm so envious of those of you who have gardens and can grow all kinds of fruits and vegetables! Take care everyone.

@lioness. I always have mask on. Yes, the people in the beach cities in OC are very, very reluctant to wear masks even though the number of cases are increasing rapidly in those cities. In Irvine, everyone who works in contact with the public and customers must wear masks. A developer had donated one million masks to our city. No idea who or how to get them. Just got back from my walk, a friend dropped off a dozen mangoes, a tray of frozen prawns, and other goodies. I will share them with my neighbors if they want them, I can't eat all that.

Hello,
No problem, I appreciate your concern.
Hope all is well with you. Don’t have the answers I want yet but if I get them fine if I don’t find.I’ve lived for 53 years with epilepsy and no I knows why I have that so I can live with some idiopathic dizziness too.
Take care,
Jake

@lioness, That was a young opthamalogist I won't be seeing again!! Glad to hear your drops are helping. You are well ahead of me on the exercise! I walked early this morning but adding laundry and chair exercises would be just too much of a good thing! very big grin (vbg)
