Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?

Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@lioness My daughter definitely thinks she is part dachshund but we haven't figured out what else she is. My daughter sent us a picture today of some steps they bought so the dog can get up down from the sofa!

@fiesty76 My daughter is pretty special, in my opinion. This is her second dog and both have been very lucky and very loved.

Good morning! Got to get some housework done then going for a nice walk. Maybe it will energize me since I woke up at 4:30 this morning for no reason. Ugh! Here's some music to start your day...

Just got back from my second walk. Now laundry, then finishing off my vegetarian Tuscan kale and bean soup (actually more like a stew because I added barley to it) for dinner.

Thanks, @fiesty76 I think those traits are the ones I am most proud of in my kids, they are really both very caring people. My daughter on a global level, my son more on a personal level. It's a great feeling when your kids are adults and you like them!

@mayofeb2020 I did a second walk too. It was good because I was walking fast enough to get my heart rate up, whereas I can't when I walk with my husband.
Your soup sounds yummy! I only like kale in soup.

@lioness Both of those sound delicious too! My husband loves lentil soup but I have never made it. I love scones, any kind.

I have the same type of daughters, both wonderful human beings. Sometimes I wondered when they were teenagers. LOL

I have been baking up a storm now that I am confined to the house. I just made banana bread for my husband and I plan to make a cake tomorrow. My husband loves Mexican food, and I made some enchiladas for him. I plan to cook some a Thai food when he finishes the leftovers from yesterday’s dinner. Everything I cook is kidney friendly.
