Seeking recommendations for a uro-gynecologist or urologist

Posted by brr @brr, Feb 9, 2020

I had previously posted a discussion on bad surgical results; the particular doctors that I have visited have not been helpful. Does anyone have the name of doctor/doctors that are urogynecologists or urologists that have been helpful with patients who have had bad surgeries or continuing issues because of surgeries? Most doctors, I find, offer small solutions that don't seem to see the whole issue of what's going on with the total body.

After researching Dr. Frank, it seems he prefers to deal with cancer issues. If I may ask, was yours a Bladder prolapse/incontinence issue? I have not called his office yet to check on what he deals with. Thank you.

That’s what it says on profile, but I had NO cancer. Was born with bladder extrophy and had procedure 63 yrs ago that connected ureters to sigmoid ( done at Henry Ford Hospital.) I started seeing Dr. Frank in early 60’s and he kept me going and then did surgery for 2 ostomies——BECAUSE OF HIM I Am longest living person with ureterosigmoidostomy( first procedure) in the history of Mayo Clinic. He’s good with everything
—-truly worth an appointment.

Here is wishing you many more years of good health!

Many thanks. With an ureterosigmoidostomy one has 700% greater chance of cancer, but Dr. franks yearly colonoscopy and close watch on blood , cancer never had a chance. He still “watches”some remaining “native” colon, but all is well.

If you self refer to Mayo, and see and Internist, after letting registration know all of the challenges you're facing, the Internist can collaborate with all of the specialist at Mayo and give you whole body information.

I self referred and asked the Internist to put my through the mill and tell me everything I was dealing with and tell me how to best increase my quality of life. She sent me to the specialists and testing needed an followed up with me afterwards.

That's the great thing about Mayo Clinics. Everything/one needed is housed together.

Hello @healingone. I'm wondering if when you mention the internist at Mayo putting you through the mill...are you are referring to your entrance to the pain rehab program? I'm in the process of gaining acceptance to the program and as I understand it, I will be assigned a team to assess me. Is this what you are referring to when you speak of your diagnosis?

I went to the Internist and asked her to find all the things I was dealing with and tell me how to best increase my quality of life. She sent me for testing and several specialist.

The rheumatologist diagnosed my Central Sensitization with Fibromyalgia.

A Pain Specialist diagnosed Chronic Pain Syndrome and referred me to the Pain and Rehabilitation Program.

At the program itself, a doctor spoke to me at intake, I had paper and computerized tests, met with nurse that managed my meds, had urine analysis, met with OT AND PT as far as I can remember.

Daily I Dr. Sletten gave instruction related to Central Sensitization; I participated in balance, flexibility, strength building, and cardio exercises, and I had OT.

Every 3 days I met with the team, representatives from all of the doctors, therapists and nurses, to check on my progress.

I had biofeedback, nutrition, and pain distraction sessions as well.

15 days packed with information and strategies improving my quality of life.

A Psychologist, Nurses, OTs, PTs are the main leaders in the PRP.

The other specialists and testing the Internist sent me to before the Pain and Rehabilitation Program.

Ahhhh, ok, now I understand. So you went for the rehab program initially but, the analysis of your health prefaced the program. Gotcha! I'm assuming you weren't fully diagnosed upon arrival. I am however, feel more analysis could be done and am hoping I have the same outcome as you. It sure sounds like you gained clarity, structure and hope. I'm patiently waiting for my acceptance.
Thank you for helping me understand. Have a great day!!! 🌻

All you have to do is to self refer, telling them everything that is going on with you and tell them that you want to to find out all of the conditions you face and how to maximize your quality of life.

Tell the same thing to the Internist.

Mayo set me up with the Internist and two other specialists right to start with. The Internist had many tests ordered and scheduled me with several other specialists. If needed the specialists scheduled other testing. The last specialist I saw before the Pain and Rehabilitation Program was the pain specialist.

When you self refer, if you tell them only one diagnosis, like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Mayo doctors may refuse to see you. When my family doctor referred me for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Mayo wouldn't see me, saying that they don't treat that. But it is covered in the Pain and Rehabilitation Program's treatment with Fibromyalgia and Central Sensitization.

Have a great day!
