Asthma like symptoms after engine fume inhalation

Posted by acid2come @acid2come, Jan 13, 2020

Hello everyone, I can’t get any help or information! I’ve been to primary doc, pulmonologist, ERS, and Gastroenterologist..So I’m sorry in advance for the long story..but this is how it’s went so far.. in August I helped my husband work on a high performance motor in our shop.. It was over heating so it was a lot of starting it and letting it run until over heating (work on it) then start it up again and let it run until it over heated again.. thus went on for about 7-8 hrs.. shop doors were open..it was about 100 degrees we also had fans going..but the fumes were bad..I started coughing that night and felt bad the next week. Thought it was the flu...the nx wkend it was still over heating so we wrapped the headers with fiberglass. I still didn't fell good.. but I helped anyway.. it was a 7-8 hr job also..my cough got worse, had muscle fatigue..but now I cldnt talk or drink anything with out coughing..I couldn’t Stand the taste of soft drinks it burned my mouth..or if it was cold it made me cough..with coughing come no air.. I cld breath in but couldn’t breathe out... my oxygen level is good so I get no help from doctors..had s lung function test it showed restricted air way..plus my GURD started back up.. had a EGD doc said from throat down to stomach is not bleeding but very red and inflamed..I’ve had a Nissan fundo surgery about 10yrs ago wasn’t hvin any trouble with acid.. until all of this...never had any breathing trouble..until all of this.. I hv a nebulizer but it doesn’t seem to help..
Any suggestions or help I would appreciate it very much..

I think I have to agree with @lioness and @merpreb . You really need to see a second doctor. It’s been a couple of months since your problem started! I’m glad that the fungus is being treated, but has anyone discussed where you might have gotten it from?
You’ve been a great advocate for yourself; just wish the doctors were working as hard. I keep thinking about you and hope you’re getting better.

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to me..this type of fungus grows outdoors and indoors.. I have read that it s very uncommon for it to be on vocal cords..but the doctor removed it from r lung and vocal cords..I don’t think the new doc
i seen last week believed me..but I mean I can hardly talk because my voice is weak.. and I told him that.. plus he had already done the scope and showed me how bad my throat and stuff is swollen and inflamed..
I’ve already called a different doctor I’m not going back to him.. I can’t get in for 2weeks..I’ve been upset worrying about it. I can’t sleep bed or recliner the acid is so bad it’s coming up in my sinus.. it feels like it’s eating my face off..the burn in my chest is almost unbearable.. I’m taking 2 omeprazole 40mg plus a Zantac, rolaids.. But if I bend over acid instantly comes up into my mouth.. my Nissan is not working right, but doctors don’t believe me...
I’m going to get all records then it’s not me telling them, that’s what it is...sorry every time I just go on and on.. but it’s been 7months...a lot of appointments and me telling the same story.. trying to make doctor believe me..or begging...

@acid2come- When he acted like this and closed that door he shut you out. Have you begun to look for another doctor?

I feel lost, I found a infectious doctor about 2 hrs from me which I will call Monday for app..
But I don’t know where to start with them.. I think I over whelm them..I mean all of this started in July.. It’s took me 7 months to finally figure out I hv a fungus in lungs and vocal cords.. I’ve tried to tell them (within about 3-4 weeks) I fell VERY hard on my stomach rib cage..then the fumes, and fiberglass..that’s when I started coughing uncontrollably and acid started coming up and at the same time my air shut off..
I think when I fell it moved my Nissan fundoliption.. I wasn’t hvin any trouble before
with acid.. I had 9-10yrs without any acid
I guess I’m asking how do I approach them with all of the above??

@acid2come With a new Dr Im glad you found a infectious Dr to go to . In the mean time . make a list of all your conditions from when this all started . Write down also any questions you might have for the Dr. Usually the nurse comes in first give her the list of your conditions so he can have it before he sees you. Tell him about the Nissan fundoliption also . Make sure you tell him all about the fumes. The medications you are on . Maybe others will have more information here for you but this is all I can think of for now.

@acid2come- After so many months and doctor's visits that weren't satisfying I don't blame you for feeling lost. My answer to you is much like @lioness' answer. One foot at a time. Jot down your medical history and this story, including all tests and appointments. Get ahold of your results so that you can bring them with you. Make a list starting from your symptoms and what they feel like. Have you found a new doctor?
