@richardsville, I want to welcome you to Mayo Connect,. We are an online community where you can ask questions, share experiences, and get support from others. I am a liver and kidney transplant recipient, and I was attracted to your post this morning.

A lung transplant isn't the right treatment for everyone. Certain factors may mean someone is not a good candidate for a lung transplant. Each case is considered individually by a transplant center. A lung transplant is reserved for people who have tried other medications or treatments, but their conditions haven't sufficiently improved.

What is the underlying condition for your brother's lung condition? Is the doctor saying 'no' to lung transplant? or 'no' to living lung transplant?

@richardsville- This must be so disappointing to hear. Have you considered a second opinion? If need be go out of state, if you can, to a large hospital complex like Mayo or Mass General. What kind of a doctor told your brother this? Did he give a reason?
