14 year old daughter

Posted by maui6698 @maui6698, Dec 10, 2019

My 14 year old daughter is worrying me. She is tired all of the time, it started this summer, she wants to nap all the time any chance she gets would this be just normal part of being a teen? My mommy sences are telling me that I need to have her checked out but her dr said its fine but I still worry

While it is normal for teens to sleep a lot, I believe in following your intuition. A checkup that included bloodwork couldn't hurt. You also might want to see if you can have a heart to heart and make sure she is not being bullied, struggling with schoolwork, or dealing with some type of abuse (God forbid). Hopefully she has just reached the teen sleeping, eating, and hating phase. Good luck!

Hi,

I echo what @smithforreal said and trust your instincts. She may be going through a growth spurt. Lots of teens go to bed so late (and you don’t know about it) and are tired during the day. I raised 2 children and have overseen 4 grandkids with similar sleep patterns and they are all now normal sleeping young adults. However, to ease your mind, insist on a complete blood panel no matter what your doctor says. That way you can rule out any medical causes. Make sure you get a copy of the results and remember the test is only a guideline. Always watch how the kids are doing in school grade wise and be concerned if grades are going down.

It’s not easy raising teenagers. And they are notorious sleepers....they need to be as they’re still growing. I hope you have a close relationship with your daughter. Even if that is so, you know they won’t tell you everything. Always follow your heart when it comes to your children.

thanks yall. i do have a very great relationship with her. I'm so thankful for that! She is going to a new dr after Christmas and I will be sure they do a blood work up on her. I have just been diagnosed with 4 different auto immune diseases so I don't what her to go thru the same issues I have.

@maui6698 I'm glad to hear she has a doctor appointment coming up, hopefully, if there is any cause beyond typical teen things it will be discovered. My first thought was depression. Is it possible that she is depressed about something? I know when I was younger and was depressed at times I just wanted to sleep a lot.
