Dizzy still after my liver transplant

Posted by livertrex @livertrex, Oct 4, 2019

Does anybody else feel light-headed and get very dizzy. I'm having to use a cane pretty wobbly. I had my transplant on August 22nd. Thought this would all go away by now. It's the same feeling I had before I had my transplant with my old liver. Please respond thanks everybody

@jolinda

Just a quick piece of advice, if you are feeling dizzy sit down or get your head low. I am very tall so I've learned over the year's if I feel dizzy or off balance it is best to just sit down, even if it's on the floor. If you do end up passing out it will prevent you from getting seriously injured.

@gaylea1 Great advice from @jolinda, and find it as quickly as you can. I had a Pre-syncope episode and knew I might faint so was heading to the sofa to sit. Before I made it out of the kitchen I went down on the tile floor and ended up with a fractured femur. Turned out it fractured because I now have rather severe osteoporosis which had not been diagnosed. I doubt it would have fractured if not for that but I’m sure I would have been quite sore.
Sometimes in the morning, if I didn’t get enough sleep I am light-headed. When that happens I will not drive even when it means skipping a water aerobics class.

@contentandwell that is terrible! I hope you have healed. I've taken one tumble while walking around the block. I went down backward (luckily on a grassy area) and banged my head and my tailbone. My backside hurt for about 3 months. After that experience I've been very cautious.

@gaylea1 I am still limping and have not yet been able to return to my health club. It will be three months on the 21st. I believe if you have osteoporosis it takes longer to heal too, and the catch here is that lack of exercise makes osteoporosis progress more.

@contentandwell I believe the femur is a very strong b9ne and that healing a break is timely and painful. Hugs to you dear friend. The exercises for osteo are limiting.

@gaylea1 Thanks. They told me about three months but I think it’s going to take longer than that. I am generally pretty quick at healing so I thought I would be with this too but so far it doesn’t seem that way.

. I guess the best way to explain my be like getting out of bed in the
morning and bumping into everything because you can't quite get your
balance and everything is kind of moving around you. I know when I ride in
the car with my wife and she's driving everything's going to by me at
hundred miles an hour is frustrating.

@livertrex, and All.
I want to bring this discussion back to the topic of dizziness after transplant. I am not medically trained, but only a patient like all of you. I honestly don't recall dizziness because my transplant was 10 years ago. However, I decided to look thru my Going Home After Transplant Booklet and one of the listed reasons to call your transplant coordinator is " Feeling unusually weak ot light-headed."
@livertrex, you are young with your transplant, and your body is still trying to get adjusted. I encourage you to call your coordinator tomorrow. You might need to have some repeated labs, or medication adjustment and then more labs. (that is my experience)

Do you have a post transplant coordinator that you can call? Please let me know what you find out?

Can someone help me find out how I can ask a question? I only see how to reply to messages. Can’t find a link that says.”ask your question here” please,anyone? I suffered 2-3 yrs of daily hepatic encephalopathy.my ammonia levels ran from 175-210 daily. I believe I suffer permanent brain damage from this. It’s getting worse and worse. Transplant date was July,2015. Can someone tell me how I can ask others this question?
