Has anyone been using Tymlos?

Has anyone been using Tymlos? I received devastating news that my bone density score is 4.6, much worse than my age of 72. Recommendation is Tymlos.

I chose Tymlos because it is one of the two drugs that actually build bones. I chose it over Forteo because it is newer and I hope a bit better; It is taken for 18 months vs. 2 years on Tymlos and it is less expensive that Tymlos. My first 90 day supply cost $1780 -- with my insurance. The 2nd 90 day supply cost $680 -- I don't know why my cost changed, but I am grateful.

Wow, your cost is even higher than my ins. Have you applied for help through Tymlos?

Much better coverage than my Part D in NC!

I have just been recommended to start it too due to recent fractures. Any information would be appreciated! My endocrinologist’s nurse told me to take it when I go to bed because a common side effect is dizziness and I will sleep this part of it away each night.

@curlylocks and @cireland Good afternoon, wow, I haven’t found anyone on Tymlos. Even my pharmacist said I was the first in this area. Would you be comfortable sharing the reason for choosing this osteoporosis medication. Mine reason is. that I had a severe reaction to boniva and could not use anything with similar ingredients. I am finishing week four and still have just a teeny weeny bit of nausea. I take mine in the a.m. because I am worried that I will fall asleep and not remember. I have been known to do that. And another question....did you get this through your regular RX insurance? Did you explore Canada? Hope you both are having a lovely day.

I am supposed to get mine through a speciality pharmacy my insurance company is choosing and they are mailing me the prescription. This was all taken care of Thru my doctor at Mayo.

@georgette12, @cireland, @curlylocks, Thank you so much for responding. Those are the exact reasons I chose Tymlos @cireland, The other reason is that it doesn't have to be refrigerated. I think @georgette12, you fell into the donut hole. The price is high for a month or so and then it drops to $8.00 give or take a few cents, for the rest of the calendar year. So..overall, it is a good idea. This is a new medication, and you are right it should be state of the art. I would like to stay in touch on Connect with folks who share a common medication for what we all want to avoid, fractures. Please don't fall now until it builds more bone. I am even thinking of getting a snazzy cane until I finish the 18 months.

I’m thinking of the “snazzy” cane idea too depending on how PT goes for my foot (that fractured).

Hope you're having a good day. Tymlos was recommended by 2 doctors. The reason was my poor T score and a lower cost. Unfortunately, even Tymlos is, under my plan, way too expensive. Also, my right knee should be replaced, but my bones won't hold the hardware. The doctors are hoping Tymlos will enable me to handle the surgery.

Because Tymlos has a high cost, after one month at $500, you are already in the doughnut hole where you spend 2 months and $1000. Then you are completely covered for the remaining 9 months at $8.00 per month. So the average monthly cost is $131. That is more manageable. I am so far from an insurance guru...it just makes my head spin so allow a little leeway on my math skills. However, this works for me.

The same insurance person gave me contact information for 3 manufactures that offer financial assistance.

What gives me chills is that RX companies are increasing prices so much that as seniors we are being priced out of the market for the very medications we need for a decent quality of life. Just like the patent process, these pharmaceutical companies have to make a killing before generics take over and they have to start all over. A dilemma for sure.

Have a restful sleep tonight. Chris

@artscaping Does the amount of expenditure you have to have vary by insurance carrier? When I was on xifaxan we were spending about $700 a month and didn’t hit the donut hole until around September. The retail on that was around $2400 a month, but it was worth it. My husband has a very good retirement pension but that was a sacrifice.
