Share your hobby!

What's your hobby with your health condition as it is? Mine is smartphone photography. I have taken some amazing photos this week. One photo is of a bumblebee in my garden (previously shared). Another photo opportunity that I've had just today is the removal of a huge tree from my property (infested with ash tree borers). It was a risk to falling on my home, or my neighbors home. I've never witnessed such an event, removal of a large tree next to a home. I'll try to share a few photos from this past week. Photography is a new passion of mine.

Due to my myasthenia gravis, I moved into the home that I grew up in! I've been making repairs that I admit are frustrating. It's not the situation that I always dreamt of, but I own the home, no mortgage! And it's about the size of a home I can handle given my health situation. Having MG, it's easier in the cold weather, my symptoms worsen when it gets hot. I enjoy 30-50 degrees Fahrenheit. I wish I could do Florida or Arizona, but I can't 🙂

Here's what I enjoy doing. Take a photo with your smartphone. I have a Samsung Galaxy phone. Then, view the photo in the 'Gallery' app, and select the 'pencil' icon, and that will edit the photo. Enlarge the photo on your smartphone screen, the results can sometimes be increditble! That's how I captured these shots. Take the photo, enlarge it, crop it.

@Erinmfs Love the picture of the bumblebee on the flower . I love anything nature shows me. Is that tree at your house that is coming down?

I also enjoy quilting (when the weather is too bad to get outdoors). I'm learning the modern methods of using pre-cuts from artists that provide fabric bundles for sale. I think this is a kind of cheating quite frankly, but I'm trying to get into it. So, for you quilters out there, I have experience making log cabins (chosing yardage myself), and this is my first pre-cut adventure, it's called a jelly roll race. It turned out really nicely. My eyesight won't holdup all day, I find heavy duty quilting wears out my eyes, so I have a couple friends now, ones a long armer, who helped me finish the binding and did the top quilting. It turned out nicely. Donating to charity, we have $100 in it we determined.

Yes, that's my tree coming down unfortunately.... I live in Iowa, and the Emerald Ash Tree borer has infultrated the state, killing all of the ash trees! The utility company came to my home in March and said the tree is infested and should be removed, as it's posing a hazard to the electric lines. The homes are quite close together here in this area (kinda like California!) - lol. Anyway, there was a 'make safe' done to the tree by the electric company, and I had to hire a company to remove the ash tree, it was removed today. I will miss that tree, I planted it with my Dad as a kid 🙂

Erin @Erinmfs, Wow! What a fantastic discussion topic. I love it!! Your photos are beautiful, and I appreciate your 'how to" Tip, too.
Trees coming down, I feel your pain. We had 2 huge ones taken down last fall and it broke our hearts. I am 'crafty' person, too. Can't seem to sit with my hands idle. I am trying my hand at landsacpe quilting. Here is a my 1st attempt. I used strips of fabric and introduced myself to some thread painting. Now that I have my table cleared again, I will be addint the border to make it 20x30 inch. I plan to frame it.

@rosemarya That is pretty . I envoy all you quilters I don't have the patients forsewing in any shape or form. But just painting I do I want to get watercolors next and try. My son is finally back from his 3 week hike in Yosemite there where 2 mishaps. Doug was airlifted to safety as his mental state overpowered him and Chuck ended up with twisted knees his legs and feet are swollen and had a puncture wound. They didn't reach there goal but are going back next year to finish . Hikers ? My son has a very good head on him and usually is the leader so he only has a beard which is coming of before he goes back to work. Glad it wasn't any worse

Lioness, please no envy. You have your own gifts for expression thru your color projects. I like the puzzle like challenges in any project!
I’m happy that your son is ok. Yosemite is a beautiful place.
Do you know that you can get watercolor pencils? They look and behave like colored pencils, but you can use a good quality soft water color brush that holds a good point, and add a whole new look to a colored page? You can even add more pencil w/o the wet brush for a variety of effects!
Yes, my hubby and I do hike. Favorite places are national parks (Love the senior park pass!)

Well, what was some of my livelihood is now a hobby. I like being creative and I have a small area where I grow some flowers and now do some artwork that accumulates in drawing pads and totes. Apartment living has been a huge adjustment after a house. Could no longer care for it and wasn't going to pay someone else to do it for me. My little habitat is my botanical garden, art studio and gallery. Art and playing in the dirt helps to keep me sane. Thanks for asking about hobbies @Erinmfs. Many of us here use creativity to help with various issues.
