Have you used alternative dosages for Tymlos or Forteo?

Posted by Laurapearl @laurapearl, Jul 7, 2019

Hi everyone: I’m in my fourth month of Tymlos injections. I’ve noticed from time to time that people mentioned using a variation of the usual dosage of Tymlos or Forteo. For example, instead of one full injection every night, they were injecting every other night, or they were using a reduced amount of the medication in each injection. If you have used an alternative dosage, 1) what was it, 2) why did your doctor suggest it, and 3) how has it worked for you? Thanks!

Hi @laurapearl I thought fellow Connect members @ritafarmer @user_chf56161a and @cirland as they have taken tymlos or forteo and may be able to share if this is something they've experienced.

What is your current dosage? Is your doctor suggesting this?

I took Forteo for two years about 10 years ago at the recommendation of my rheumatologist. So far as I know, there is only one dosage. It greatly increased my bone density.

i am taking the usual prescribed dosage of Tymlos -- 80 mcg per daily dose (or 8 clicks of the dosage setter on the pen). The issue for me is that I'm experiencing very strong side effects that have not lessened one bit over time. Some of the anecdotal accounts of alternative dosages that I've seen have mentioned similar things, so I was hoping to learn more about that.

I’m taking Forteo now. Just started my 4th month of injections (no side effects so far!). Can you share how much your bone density increased? And what did you follow up with after you finished with the Forteo?

With Tymlos, I have a racing heart with palpitations with every dose, as well as nausea and upper stomach pain.

@laurapearl, Greetings! I am in my first week. I also experienced the same side effect issues. They got worse and then yesterday I felt great and had no issues. I even wondered if I actually injected the Tymlos. We’ll see how today goes. Please stay in touch. On another note.....I don’t know how much others are paying. Has anyone been successful trying Canada? Have a lovely day. Chris

How long have you been on Tymlos? For the first couple months after I started taking Tymlos, I experience nausea and loss of appetite, but these side effects have lessened. I've been taking it for six months and the side effects are minimal.
