Loose stools

Posted by messygirl @messygirl, Jun 29, 2019

So i have been getting loose stools since 3 years now and it all started when i travelled to and fro and eating food from the outside. I consulted doctor and took medications but it still continued. I see that the consistency and frequency has quite reduced now but i still get loose stools twice per day. Sometimes i also feel mild lower abdominal pain and rectal pain ( more like a discomfort) while taking poop. I get no stomach pains or so nor do i loose weight. I have been stressed too for quite long and this is making me feel more stressed. Can someone give the right cause please? Much appreciated

@messygirl try to not be anxious and upset about moving, that only tends to exacerbate problems.

Ask your doctor if you can take biotin for hair loss, I have found that it does help.

And yeah i was so worried i thought i might have any type of STD that is causing loose stools but that thing is i have never been involved in sexual activities, am aware that sounds stupid but could that ever happen in my case? The stress is making me think about unnecessary stuff.

@messygirl I have no idea if you can get an STD without being sexually active. It sounds doubtful though.

I’m so confused on all of the different paths to try to stop the chronic ribs to the bathroom. Test after test and finally one is positive. Fructose malabsorption. Very high intolerance. My elimination diet 10 days now isn’t changing much of anything. Lists of can have can’t have is so hard and low FODMAP Foods Vs High FODMAP Nothing says eliminate dairy which I don’t do except 1/2 and 1/2 very little in am. Can hv some sugars etc. yet still in bathroom 1 to 2 x a day. I’m hardly eating now afraid of reaction with nausea gas upper stomach pain. Etc I’m not celiac no Crohns no bowel disease so why is wheat needed to be stopped on fructose elimination I love salads too and they just cause so much discomfort. I just want things to turn around. No meds. No probiotics no enzymes by doctor Just diet. I eat totally plain and not much different just yet Thanks for letting me vent

Long story short I researched my similar issues, came up with over production of bile. I now take colestipol 1GM in am and one when I eat out or go out. Very frustating that not one medical proffesional could find a reason for my problem.

@messygirl Your symptoms sound pretty much identical to mine, and my problem turned out to be lactose intolerance. I'm not saying you have that, but it does sound like something you eat regularly is causing this. Your best bet would be to try an elimination diet and see if that helps.

I also had little pain or discomfort, just the loose stools and very bad smelling gas. Since eliminating dairy I rarely have a problem. I had a minor one today and I think something I ate must have some lactose hidden in it. The only thing I can think of is coleslaw but I never thought that had any dairy in it. I do get a bit of help if I take Imodium. It's not perfect but it's better than anything else I have tried. Lactaid is of no help.

Do you have IBS or ?? Yes the Low FODMAP diet is a real drag but better than the alternative—at least for me. My understanding is that many IBS sufferers (including me) are lactose intolerant or at least lactose sensitive. There are many good lactose free and low lactose products available. And the Lactaid type tablets work well for me. Just be sure you buy those without additives like mannitol which with IBS can cause symptoms. I get them at Costco. Buy the tablets not the chewables and you may need to take two at a time.

Thank you for the info.
I wanted to get an opinion on this because my loose stools which happened after travelling is making me dig deeper about stuff and making me anxious.
