ARE YOUR MEDS HELPING OR HINDERING YOUR DEPRESSION?

Posted by grandmaR @grandmar, Apr 23, 2019

Good Morning All!

I was cleaning out my saved messages this morning when I came across an article I was saving to share with my doc.
I might have shared it with you before, can't remember.
Even if I did, I think it is worth another share.
Many of us are on multiple meds for multiple conditions.
Although they might be helping for that specific ailment, can we be sure that it is not having an impact on our mental health?????
As I re-read this, I realized WHY I kept this article; I am taking many of the meds on this list (for other ailments).
Can these meds not only make my anxiety worse, but impact my ability to wean down from my Effexor?
Food for thought.

Have a happy mental health day...……..

I am curious about treatments for anxiety/depression that involve meditation and mindfulness practices. I am aware that some in the medical field promote medications and many of those meds help people. Others in the field promote therapies that rely on the psychology of the mind. Also, some illnesses may require both meds and psychotherapy. Any thoughts out there about this general subject?

I suffer from generalized anxiety. I started with therapy, first.
After a while we realized that although I felt better, I needed more.
I started on meds.
I did both for a long time and I found it helped.
I am still on meds and I've been in and out of therapy when I felt I needed it.
Having a good therapist makes ALL the difference!!

@jlind- This is a great question. One thing that you might want to check out also is eye movement therapy. Here is the link: http://www.emdr.com/

@lioness- These are commercials by lawyers who are ambulance chasers and they want you to sue so that they can make a pretty penny off of you. Don't fall for it. I bet everyone at sometime in their lives have had bad reactions to a drug. Unless we are unconscious it's our free will that opens our mouth and swallows, our responsibilities. If drug companies were responsible for everyone who had a bad reaction than that would be untenable. Go after your doctor or pharmacist or drug company if you didn't get a fact sheet with the drug. Other wise you are just making someone rich with your money.

@merpreb After I posted I thought about it My mouth gets ahead of my mind sometimes Your right 😂 but how can we stop the drug companies if not by suing them It's the drug companies that are getting rich so it's s two way street The drug companies are getting rich of our backs they don't care that it is doing harm to us 😡 This is individual choice

@lioness- Great question Linda. But getting rich is another topic. It is an individual choice. There are warning with prescriptions too. My doctor gives me options and if I'm not too crazy about something she'll give me time to research it. Pharmacies ask if you want a consultation about any drugs that you are buying. Another thing that we can ask the dr. is if the meds that they a re prescribing addicting and what are the alternatives.

@merpreb It is a two way street they make meds to get rich but drug companies are trying to give us what they think will work ,have you heard about pharmacies knowing a drug will cure but hold it back ,I have ,so they get rich of our backs If the drug is there it's up to the individual to decide if they want to take it or not knowing the side effects 😉 I am down on drug companies because I know how they push a new drug to Dr,s and no matter what a person has that's the drug if choice. With this said it is a individual choice that lawyers are giving to an individual if they want to sue or not 🤗

@lioness - I agree with everything you are saying. Yes my surgeon told me about companies holding back stuff like new chemo drugs. I can not discuss politics or religion and try and steer people away from those topics because that is not what Connect is about. There are plenty of public forms for those.
Linda- I am all for total honesty from the medical world and I have extreme anger, disbelief and sadness about what's happened in the past years to change that. And that's as far as I'll go.

@merpreb I never talk politics or religion to each his own I'm just bringing articles ,etc. to people's attention that it's out there for them to make a choice 😍
