I'd like to start a low carb diet. Any suggestions? Anyone familiar with the Mayo Diet? does it work, how did you get started on it? I've learned a bit about the Keto Diet, anybody familiar with that? Thanks!

I had heard something like that, isnt that interesting? I have a grocery route, Aldi, HyVee, Fareway, etc. Each store, I have a favorite item. For me, its Aldi cucumber, mini, and their walnuts and almonds, etc. Did you hear the rumor that walnuts reduce belly fat? I'm eating my walnuts too 🙂

Hi Erin,@user_chdb5e8ac I know people who swear by Keto but I'm not really familiar with it. If you get started and want to share recipes, I'd like to invite you over to the thread on Recipes, Food Tips and Healthy Eating:

I like the walnuts, my nurse turned me onto the walnuts reduce belly fat story. and somebody told me that Aldi has the best deal on almonds and walnuts, as it's pricey to add a handful of nut to your diet on a daily basis for sure.

this statement maybe controversial, but my Dad lived to be 88 years old drinking vodka martini's. so, alcohol can be bad for you in excess, no denying. But then, my Dad lived to be 88 years old on the stuff , along with olives. So, in honor of my Dad's longevity, I like to enjoy a cucumber spritzer, and that is a shot of vodka, a mini cucumber, 1-2 large olives, and La Croix mineral water (lime). on ice. Dad would feed me olives, cucumber, green pepper marinated in vodka since I was 5 years old. So, I enjoy those mini cukes on my salad and in what I'll call my own concoction of a vodka cuke spritzer. I hope I don't get into trouble for admitting this occassional shot of vodka with mineral water and veggies.... I love the marinated veggies.

Dad lived off of peanuts, KFC chicken, frozen shrimp and cocktail sauce, and vodka martinis with a variety of vegatbles in his drink, and he was thin, never fat, and lived to be a happy 88 years old. I wish pubmed would study these types of situations and let us know if there's scientific evidence to show if and how his diet or lifestyle helped him live to be 88? stress reduction seems to be key.

I forgot to say that Dad smoked cigarettes, along with the rest of the drinking and lived to be 88. His diet wasn't great, and I'm sure he could care less if he could spell keto, lol.

I wonder if the docs and researchers study these kinds of people? Drinking and smoking and living to 80 or more?

I had my walnuts, peanuts, cukes tonight, I sure miss my dad 🙂

When I talk to my nurse tomorrow, I'll get a carb count Target for the 'diet' and share it

@lioness I just talked to Judi, she suggested these things

no Keto diet for me, that's a fad thing, cannot keep up with fad diets
30g of carbs is my target
drink four bottles of water a day
no fasting, eat 3 meals
eat 1 fruit, mostly veggies
have the nuts, but small portions, like 8 almonds is a good snack in the afternoon
LoseIt has me targetting 1400 calories to lose 20 lbs by September, that sounds reasonable to me
no rice, no potato chips, no potatoes,
eat a balanced diet, smaller portions
