Best Shower heads for MAC

Posted by kathyhg @kathyhg, Mar 18, 2019

I've been reading about shower heads and it seems that many are bad for growing bacteria. One mentioned on another forum was called The Original Chrome Shower Head by Shower Clear. It is very expensive and wondering if anyone has experience with this or others that might be good.
Thanks,

I am not someone who typically endorses any products but I have been using the Shower Clear shower head for a couple of weeks and I am very pleased with it. I open it up after using the shower and all the water pours out; I leave it open until I use it again. Although I know that the bacteria that causes MAC is everywhere, I am satisfied that I have reduced or eliminated at least this one source of bacteria. I was initially scared off by the price but that quickly faded when I started looking at shower heads of similar quality and price that did not provide an option for drying the shower head after use. I know that it is easy to become overwhelmed by the sources of MAC and (for me) the wish to "MAC proof" my world but I know this is not possible or healthy, from an emotional and relational perspective. Therefore, it something as simple as a shower head can help me reduce my exposure, it is well worth the money. As an aside, it is really solid and well made - simple and does what it is intended to do.

I got it at Amazon but it is also available at Goop. I paid $445 CAD with exchange, shipping and import fees. My next big purchase will be a water filter system for my kitchen tap so I will feel better about the quality of water for drinking/cooking. Mac is an expensive illness.

Same as amazon but the exchange rate doesn’t favour the CDN dollar right now 🙂

@kathyhg, @pfists , @janovr I have a question: if mac is in your pipes, won't it just spray through your showerhead no matter the type? Bear in mind, not every home has mac in it's plumbing. It might be beneficial to have your water tested before spending a lot of $$ on a showerhead. Can contact http://www.specialtylabs.com for water testing. The test runs $150.00.

When I ordered the shower clear shower head I also emailed the company that I had questions and left my number. That was one of my questions about mac still being in the water supply. The owner and inventer personally called me to answer my questions. He stated that it's in the shower head where most all of the biofilms are formed. There could be a small amount in the water still but its not colonizing like it is in the shower head. Almost all shower heads never dry out so they sit and get mac and mold growing in them. I have had mold in my sputum several times along with pseudomonas and Mac. I'm unable to use the tub because of bad knee so this shower head gives me some peace of mind. I will take short not steamy showers and hope for the best.
He sent me studies on the showerhead. My thoughts were my shower head was time to replace and why not do it with a solid brass flip open one that I don't need to worry about. Wasn't it in one of the links that you posted that in the studies they looked for the mac in homes of people with MAC infection that it was always found in the bathroom mostly the showerhead?
