Has anyone had a tight band feeling after total knee replacement?

Posted by mhort1213 @mhort1213, Feb 28, 2019

I am 8 weeks post TKR and have had this very tight band around my knee since week one. My Dr at 6 wks says it is normal and will go away. Has anyone else had this and did it go away and when?

@glokart1957 there is a discussion on MFR that has a really good video explaining what it is and how it can help near the top of the discussion.

Thank you. Will look further into this. Have you done this with good results?

I've thought about it but haven't found an accredited MFR therapist close to where I live. @artscaping has a lot of experience with MFR and I think she has a lot of relief from her sessions with it.

@chickenhaslips Thank you for this positive information about the interference of the IT Band issue. I wish everyone had a surgeon who was hanging in there with you through the healing process. Hat’s off to you for your diligence as a patient.

May you be happy and free today.

I hesitate to ask, but what responsibly do surgeons or hospitals have when things go wrong? I have concluded over time (2 years) that I do have nerve damage in my 2nd TKR. I have had this amazing PT lately who really focused on my case and what I can do to help my condition. And I follow his lead. But I am saddened that my damage may (will) be permanent and the burden is on me to do certain exercise I guess for a lifetime. And, worried if the nerve damage will get worse. It has started weakening a calf muscle when I run. So, let me say I am better off than some in that I can play a racquet sport successfully twice a week (which was my major goal for TKR). BUT MY AIM WAS 95-100% improvement and for it to last a decade or two. But, is there any recourse with the medical professionals?
I am so sorry to hear of the very serious pain and botched surgeries others have had. Wishing you all the best in 2021!

I know every case is different but for me the nerve pain is so bad I can’t even take a walk and I met with two different lawyers and both said same exact thing which was , unless someone opened up my knee and found something totally done wrong there is no case because what patients are never told is that 10 to 15 percent of TKR can have some nerve damage. Wish I heard this before

It has been 3 years since my TKR on both knees at Mayo Clinic and my knees are still tight. I also have pain below the knees to my feet. I did therapy to no avail. Revisited Doctors and they said I had knee instability and nothing could be done. They said knee revision surgeries don't have good outcomes.
The stiffness comes from a tight Quadriceps tendon, Medial collateral ligament ,Lateral collateral ligament, Iliotibal band ligament. i've tried stretches and excercises with no improvements. I regret having the surgery done.

Week ago started having tight band around front of knee in itself just irritating but it’s starting to move up and down when it catches in the middle of knee I can’t even put weight on my leg can’t get back to PT due to inability to walk when it moves OS shrugged and hasn’t got a clue what it is if he doesn’t then who ? I am so disappointed and feel useless

Raymo this sounds like what I went through in the beginning. A knife sharp tight band feeling across front of my knee, totally unable to walk and a doctor who kept saying nothing was wrong. Out of desperation I had some of my saphenous nerve cut which did take away the sharp pain across my knee but to this day , over 2yrs , I still am in severe pain below knee. Can’t put any weight without terrible pain. This Wednesday I am trying a nerve stimulator in leg to see if it can stop pain signal.
