Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

Lol, @parus. Good shot. What forms are your paper maches - puppets? I love whimsical things including puppets.

@gingerw Could add some cinnamon to the flour paste. Yes, it does smell like I am baking something yummy.

@parus for some reason my mind is flashing on a scene out of the 50s. Lady of the house in her apron pulling something out of the oven, people thinking it might be dinner for that evening. But, voila! It's a paper mache object, definitely not dinner. Flash forward to today and you would be calling for pizza at that point LOL

Hello again. Tis the season for baking-This year I am baking my paper mache to speed up the process and giving it as gifts. Calorie free baking.
I am also baking yeasty goodies and there is absolutely nothing healthy about homemade bread, etc. The smiles of the recipients are very healthy for the giver!!! Thankful for the refrigerator rise technique!!!!

I so wish I were your neighbor, @parus. I would sit in your kitchen and watch you make your miracle foods and smell all of the good things and then I'd sample them for you!! I'd probably make a pest of myself.
Enjoy all of your baking, even the paper mache!

@hopeful33250 Dear one you would be welcome indeed!!! I somehow doubt you would be a pest. A compliment greatly appreciated. Connect has become an online family in many ways. I have learned along the way, been encouraged and supported. Oh no, I am heading towards the sappy again.
Hugs. 🙂

@merpreb Gnomes, Father Christmas, Teddy bears. I need to take some pictures. I get so excited at giving them a way I forget to take a picture. Have also been doing paper garlands and snowflakes. Will try to remember to take a photo of the next batch. It is my age. I feel so much better having admitted thus. Confession, etc.

@contentandwell- I'm coming in here late, I know. JK- Inflammation is exactly what causes bursitis. It's an inflammation of the pads that protect joints. I've had it on and off since I was a kid in my left arm and shoulder area. It's painful.

Thanks, @merpreb At this point I have temporarily (maybe temporarily) stopped my PT, it was making me hurt more. I think maybe it was from doing planks. He said my form was good but I ended up with terrible backaches. This PT was great the first time I went to him for back problems, the physical therapy place is actually within a spine center but the therapists do all kinds of PT. I think that may be why he just does not seem as good at other types of PT.
The PA at my orthopedic surgeon's office suggested I see a physiatrist. I plan to make an appointment on Monday with one she highly recommended who is at MGH. My orthopedic doctor is at Brigham and Women's but the two are "partner" hospitals. I spoke to someone on the phone in her office and they said she could help me with that but first I have to have an evaluation, and that would be at MGH. If I have anything else done, it would be at Spaulding Rehab. I hope there is something beyond cortisone shots that can help it to really get better.

@contentandwell - Planks are very difficult. But I love them. If I hold in my abs, very, very tightly my back doesn't ache. Good luck with all of this, MGH has lots of connections with other hospitals in that area!

what do you eat when you have cancer but you also have severe colitis and high cholesterol? My husband is having such a rough time finding food he can tolerate, much less enjoy! And it seems like the lists I've been given just cancel each other out! Any suggestions would be wonderful!
