Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Feb 22, 2019

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

@lioness Wonder what caused it? A long-term infection perhaps? Ear exercises sounds pretty funny. I imagine itty-bitty barbells and treadmills for your ears. But that's just where my mind is going at this time of day. Empty tummy tells me better eat so I can think straight, right?

@gingerw I saw a similar picture and did not share thus as my humor is not always appreciated. I saw the cilia lifting weights. @lioness Reading your reply gave me courage to share my visual. We don’t always know what causes things. I had Lyme in 1983 and if my immune system is weak or stressed some of the symptoms flare. We never know what all causes what. I do know stress is one of my worst enemies.

@jakedduck1 - Leonard, I had one and I didn't like it. It worked as advertised, in that food actually tasted fried - but it encouraged me to eat carbs that I really wasn't used to eating. Somehow I had to reconcile the fact that even though air fried potatoes are healthier than actual fried potatoes, they are still potatoes! I too found the range of prices you posted. People have told me that the Phillips - which is the most expensive - is great. Since I was just testing the waters, I decided to go with something in between the cheapest and the most expensive. I settled on a brand called Avalon which cost about $130. Real quickly, the dial indicators on the front rubbed off so I couldn't see where the controls were. Also, for any brand, these things are HUGE and cooking surface is tiny. The tiny cooking area didn't matter to me since there are only two of us, but storage was an issue because it was so large. Best of luck!

@debbraw I was wondering about that aspect. Still healthier than fried. I don’t want all the carbs. I do struggle with the carb thing as I do love carbs. What has helped is learning that foods in the Nightshade family cause the Fibromyalgia to flare. It would also encourage me to eat more saturated fat. Always drawbacks and advantages.

@lioness I will ask my sister and daughter if they ever found a cause for it. My daughter still has brief episodes occasionally. At the time they were both having them, I was working and my boss had them too! It was almost like it was something going around, although none of them had contact with each other.

@parus I am a very visual person too, but I did not get visuals on that one. Sometimes I have my own little show going on in my brain. It was hilarious when I worked for a guy who was sort of an idiot.

@lioness- I can picture this so vividly! Good one Ginger.
I also want to tell everyone that I spilled coffee on my laptop and my husband is in the process of trying to clean the keys. I hate using my phone for Connect so I'll be mostly reading your posts and wait to respond until I have my computer back I'm thinking of you all.
