"Why bother?" What can we do when we are stuck?

Posted by Parus @parus, Feb 9, 2019

This has been brought up before in things that help. Now maybe some can share how we get out of a rut to help ourselves. We all get stuck stuck at times. Curious as to what others do when stuck in that thought mode of "Why Bother?"

P@rus, were you involved in the conversation or just happen to hear it? I can hear how angry you are. Do you go off a lot? Can you just walk away?

@merpreb Hardly ever. It was directed at me when I arrived for a community event at the complex. I ignored it and it got worse. I assertively clarified and the harassment continued. I then realized it was pointless. I took the bait and gave them my joy by being like them. Middle school stuff that hit a nerve. I know better than to take the bait which is what has me upset. I know better. I briefly lowered myself to their level. Apartment living can be ugly at times. Just dumb stuff. They are bullies. I am upset for giving them my power!

@parus- I've been there myself, more than once. This is very difficult, I know. Falling back into old habits can really set me off too. Well, it's over now. They heard what you had to say to set the story straight. Now it's time to let it go. They were the idiots, at least you realized it was pointless.

Take your time to recover, @parus. I know your heart and you were undoubtedly concerned about what was being said.

Teresa- I agree that parus's heart was in the right place. She's very honest and doesn't like people saying things that aren't

@parus Ah, but the thing is you didn't give them your power! You set the story straight from where you stand. If they choose not to honor the truth that is their issue. Even though it was directed at you and about you, because you stated what you needed to and then walked, away you actually kept your power. Please acknowledge that in yourself! You're strong and we're here for you.

@gingerw Thank you. I am grateful for what I do have. There are many here with a strong sense of entitlement and critical towards others that may have a little more. There are many here with physical disabilities/learning disabilities and these are the best residents. The bullies receive different benefits and would not have a home if it were not these benefits. They are never happy and many have stopped attending the community events because of the bullies. Most of them have been discontinued. Saddens me when the bullies win. Sad that these folks are so unhappy and by choice. Sense of entitlement is a trigger for me. I embarrassed myself as no one had ever known me to take a stand. Two wrongs do not make a right. I am a mostly a mediator. I truly am okay although terribly chagrined.

Well, that "why bother" question does keep running around in my mind. This I have labeled self pity. Time to just keep trying to navigate the ping pong ball technique for better health. Is it any wonder some give up? Getting to appointments has become overwhelming. I see a specialist only to get bounced back to PCP to be bounced to another specialist. I keep trying y'all!!!

@parus- IF you are asking this question, you care @parus. People who don't care really don't ask questions."Why Bother?" Because you were born and live on this planet and have a family, if for no other reason than care about them. That's a good enough reason. Some people have to struggle all their lives unfortunately it's their ilk, their life stamp. Being alive is a serious responsibility. We have to make the most of it no matter what life brings us. What do you think?

@parus -- I think you know that if you didn't try to deal with it, you would feel defeated and worse. I was going through a period of time where I had a LOT going on at once, and those appointments were a serious annoyance to meet. It's fine to whine sometimes, we all do, but I would be careful about labeling it as self-pity unless you didn't DO something. Press onward ... 🙂

Parus- What is going ? Bad day?

@merpreb Not a particularly bad day and not why I posted. Mostly just frustrated and wondering at times "why bother"? That is all. We can all get discouraged at times. It doesn't mean I or anyone else is giving up. Just means another plan fell through. I am my own best cheerleader for the most part. Hope you are happy.
