Rib pain under right breast and back after eating

Posted by alicat @alicat, Jan 27, 2019

Since September 2018 I have had right rib pain in front and in my back. I have been checked for kidney stones and gallbladder issues which all came back normal. I do have an ulcer without bacteria that was almost healed (Beginning of December 2018) I am on prescription Nexium, gave me antibiotics just in case. After I eat (today scrambled eggs and 1/2 biscuit) I gag, sometimes I do throw up a little. Any ideas? I'm tired of hurting and not eating.

Did they do a HIDA scan? You can have a gallbladder that just doesn't function that can cause that pain! I had the same issue but my CT scans looked normal the HIDA scan finally showed that my gallbladder wasn't functioning the way it's supposed to.

Thank you! Yes, HIDA Scan was slightly just slightly elevated and surgeon said it is pretty much perfect. I've had Endoscope, CT with and without contrast, ultrasound and blood work, all fine. I even went to physical therapy with no help, (got dry needled and went 5 times) When I eat within 10 minutes I am gagging with the right rib pain that lasts apx 30 minutes.

Do you feel it at all in the middle of the upper quadrant? That could signal pancreatitis. Unfortunetly your liver is on that right side by your ribs which could be something to look at but usually pain after eating is more of like a gallbladder or pancreas issue. You said you have a stomach ulcer which can also cause pain after eating but I don't know why it would radiate to that right side. Did they check you for a hatial hernia that can cause pain after eating and has been know to cause people to throw up as well.

Never in the middle, always on the right side, right now the pain is directly on the side of the ribs a little towards the back towards the lower false ribs. My liver blood levels are perfect. The hernia I am not sure of and I have thought of that, hmmmmm

Hello Alicat, i have the same issue, pain on the right side, i was diagnosed with peptic ulcer, i went to the E.R. they did and ultra sound and Xray from the stomach to the liver kidneys but on the report that i got they were not able to see clearly the pancreas it says it was not well visualized, the pain that i have sometimes a little better sometimes worse, maybe is the ulcer.
