reddy @reddy, Welcome to Connect. Thank you for the greeting. I am not trained in anything medical, I only have my own experience to share with you. I am happy that you have already met @jenniferhunter who has shared her own experience, as well as some helpful suggestions that might give you some relief .
I also have been diagnosed with asthma that is triggered by seasonal allergies, warm weather and high humidity, and intense activity like fast walking or hiking. I try to avoid those trigger events as much as possible. My doctor has prscribed some allergy meds, that help during the allergy season.
One thing that I want to stress is to drink enough water to stay hydrated. This can help to loosen the phlegm.
If you are smoking, please quit because smoking has a big effect on our breathing. If it is discolored or if you are having breathing difficulties, I suggest that you check with a medical care provider. Is that something that you would be able to do? My decision to see a medical provider is when my symptoms interfere with my normal standard of daily living.

Keep in touch. I am intersted in hearing from you. I also am looking forward to what anyone else contributes to this conversation.

@reddy It might be allergies. I have asthma triggered by allergies, and my other post talks about my symptoms and issues. I think I have it figured out now. My issues all start with allergies that cause the build up of phlegm and can progress to being an infection. I have 3 cats and am very allergic to them. I found a way to cope with that with extra cleaning to remove dander, wiping my cats with a wet washcloth (they are not fans of that) a HEPA filter that also has carbon filtration next to my bed blowing on me, and wearing a good quality surgical mask when I sleep that is rated at 99% efficiency. We are more vulnerable when we sleep because we are not clearing phlegm like when we are up and moving around. You can try wearing a mask and see if it stops your phlegm buildup and then you would know where to start. My mask are made by 3M #1829 Procedure mask with >99% @ 0.1 Micron particles which is equivalent to a HEPA filter. they have ear loops and are comfortable to wear. I bought them online form Walmart. I also do allergy shots and/or antihistamines. Having chronic excess phlegm does set you up for lung infections because the bugs love it.

There was a typo in the previous message. The masks are 3M #1820 Procedure Masks...... My masks are made by 3M #1820 Procedure mask with >99% @ 0.1 Micron particles which is equivalent to a HEPA filter. they have ear loops and are comfortable to wear. I bought them online form Walmart.

Dear Community,

At first : I'm sorry for my bad english - I'm a 50 Years old man from (formerly east-) Germany and i have nearly the same problem like hisham hussein.
Nobody at the whole german, swiss and austrian internet has the same - all with cough!
I'm a non - smoker, already made sports , worked as an salesman. Till March 2018 all was fine. Than I became an influenza Typ B. The whole spring and summer - indifferant problems like cold sweat, easely fitness-problems - but not every day. Than - beginning end of may: more mucus as normal. At first only after drinking and eating - than everytime. I asked 6 Docters - made x-ray from the lung - it was o.k. - no one had an idea. End of august: lung-doctor:
you have "ACOS" (Asthma-Copd-Overlap-Syndrom). I was surprised: Non smoker without cough, never had any asthma-problems. So from September till now i contacted 4 other lung-doctors & 2 hospitals: FEV1 already about 100%, but it goes already down from 115% to 100%. But the one and only problem is:this incredible excessive mucus - 24h/ day - no minute without!! Already in my mouth - from the lung and from january also behind the nose. Unfortunetaly more and more tough . Now: Laryngitis & Pharyngitis & some other problems... So I must gave up my job, sold my car, no chance to go in a restaurant with the family or friends - Im absolutely desperate. At least- now it tasts like clotted egg - white - ugly!!!
I heard from an US- research project (Journal of Clinical Investigation) which was started in 2012 regarding the enzyme MAPK 13, which should be responsible for the hyper-production of the mucus. The scientists found out a way to dock at this enzyme and reduced the mucus about a hundredfold. Unfortunetaly my english is not good enough to track the development of the project. Did anyone heard something new about this?
I'm still going mad with my problem.

with kind regards from Germany

Kay

What u need is Prednisone. See a pulmonary doctor. Very serious

All- WHen you have excess mucus one important thing is to drink lots of water to thin your mucus out. It will help bring it up and make it less harmful.

I'm no doctor but Mucinex 1200 worked for me .... the main ingredient is Guaifenesin if they don't have the brand name.I did find the brand name worked a little better but either should give you some relief. I saw a prior comment also about Prednisone which I also take and would do wonders.

@bb729- But please make sure you check with your doctor!

Thanks all for your quickly reactions.
Of course - I have prednison - based drugs - but it doesn't help. Drinking is also good - but it helps only a little little bit to make it more liquid, but my problem is not to get out the mucud - the problem is the quantity of it - and that it flows already without a ltttle break. I'm going crazy. I visited a lot of doctors, but nobody before heard something about copd/asthma without cough and with mucus in my quantity. So they don't know what they should do.
Regarding Mucinex 1200 - i will ask my wife - she's a pharmacist, But i think it's not available in germany - otherwise surely she told me - I tried all things whichever had a chance tp reduce the mucus.
That's the reason I asked about News of the US- research project regarding enzyme MAPK 13, which was starting in 2012. It seems that would be the only hope for me.
