Fibromyalgia pain: Let's connect

Posted by clownscrytoo @clownscrytoo, Oct 22, 2016

Is there anyone here that suffers from fibro? I had the 'tender spot test' several years ago and I had 17 out of the 18. I try my hardest to get through the pain with my 4 hydrocodone/acetaminaphine pills a day, Tiger Balm rubbed into areas that are the worst, light exercises, and distracting myself with hobbies or chores, etc; but there are many occasions where none of that helps and I spend most of the day holding down the couch, getting up about 30-45 minutes after that, walking/standing around the house for 15-20 minutes, or sitting for about 15-30 min. I do not drive and my husband works 6 days a week, overtime almost every day, so I'm alone a lot. my wonderful husband is very supportive and I am very grateful for that, but my only other friends are online, out of state, and I will probably never even get to meet them. when extreme pain takes over, my depression takes over and it is so difficult to find hope. does anyone have tips for fibro, whether diet or over-the-counter meds (I've tried them all, I think), or anything, besides hobbies and such? I've tried every over-the-counter med, and the Tiger Balm does cover some of what the pain pill doesn't help, but I'm hoping one of our members might have some knowledge that could help. I'd really appreciate it.

I was quilting with a lady who suffered from fibro. She said that the CBD oils really helped her.

Parus, very correct aout this site as being non judgemental! The support on here has saved my Life! When you get so frustrated not being able to find out what is wrong with you from doctors and no one to talk to in person, Mayoconect is a life safer!
I have asked in the past about Spellcheck but they say they can't do it! Strange!
Other than some learning disabilities, I say I can't spell because I went to a Catholic school and I had caticism instead of Spelling!!

@sundance6 There are several spellcheck programs that will work on this site as well. Mine is from google mail. Tells me when my spelling is incorrect and I can do my own corrections. BTW-it is free.

We are so spoiled, aren't we? I depend on spell-ck too much. I send messages on Connect and I suspect every one has multiple mis-spelled words. I just hope everyone who reads them can figure out what I'm trying to say! And, that everyone understands and will forgive these swollen, frozen, sometimes painful arthritic fingers the mistakes. They are trying and actually, that's good for them!!! Blessings all. Happy New Year. Elizabeth

@sundance6, what browser do you use? Spellcheck will come with your browser. I use Chrome and have spellcheck.

Yes. I have suffered for at least 10 years now. I actually currently have covid and it exasperated my fibro. This may sound incredibly basic, but I used curcumin to bring down the severe inflammation for covid because all my organs got inflamed and I didn’t want to take pharmaceuticals because they have more side effects and lower the immune system. I ended up finding that my joint pain and body inflammation was significantly reduced by taking a hydrosoluble and bioavailable brand of curcumin from Walgreens. 25 bucks. Buy 1 get 1 free. I highly suggest trying it. Also, if you can ween off the pharmaceuticals and OTC medicines, you can start introducing more Ayurvedic herbs to you diet that can significantly impact your recovery like Tulsi (Holy Basil). I tried the OTC drugs for years and years and I find more relief with natural things like CBD, hot teas and taking lots of vitamins and supplementing what I know I’m missing from nutrition. I hope this insight helps.

I’ve had fibromyalgia for about 15 years. I take Cymbalta which helps a lot. For some reason it has to be the brand name, and not the generic version. I tried the generic and it did not work as well for me as the brand name version. Like you, I would spend a lot of time resting and not doing too much. Now I am able to do a lot more. I hope you find some relief from the pain and the isolation.

Thank You! That was one of my PCP recomendations. May I ask how expensive it was? Do you use GoodRx or one of those?

I’m in Canada so I think costing is different. It costs me about $80 for two packs. The generic is covered by Canada’s health care plan but the brand name is not, thus the higher cost.
