Fibromyalgia pain: Let's connect

Posted by clownscrytoo @clownscrytoo, Oct 22, 2016

Is there anyone here that suffers from fibro? I had the 'tender spot test' several years ago and I had 17 out of the 18. I try my hardest to get through the pain with my 4 hydrocodone/acetaminaphine pills a day, Tiger Balm rubbed into areas that are the worst, light exercises, and distracting myself with hobbies or chores, etc; but there are many occasions where none of that helps and I spend most of the day holding down the couch, getting up about 30-45 minutes after that, walking/standing around the house for 15-20 minutes, or sitting for about 15-30 min. I do not drive and my husband works 6 days a week, overtime almost every day, so I'm alone a lot. my wonderful husband is very supportive and I am very grateful for that, but my only other friends are online, out of state, and I will probably never even get to meet them. when extreme pain takes over, my depression takes over and it is so difficult to find hope. does anyone have tips for fibro, whether diet or over-the-counter meds (I've tried them all, I think), or anything, besides hobbies and such? I've tried every over-the-counter med, and the Tiger Balm does cover some of what the pain pill doesn't help, but I'm hoping one of our members might have some knowledge that could help. I'd really appreciate it.

Family members who can't see your pain can be cruel. I so hope that the infusions are helpful and are making a significant improvement to your health. I spent 6k one year at a Fibro clinic for IV meds twice a month that were basically a Very Expensive Enema. They just ran right through me, leaving my gut a wreck. When someone says that they have a headache you can't see it, but we've all had one and we know that it hurts. I tell my family about my illness only if they specifically ask. When my brother asked and I told him it felt like I had a bad case of Flu ALL the Time, he said, "I'd just shoot myself." Thanks Bro! Often with friends they don't understand when you cancel or can't do something with them. Those folks just stop being your friends. It is no loss. We have to have compassion for ourselves and for those who don't understand and say cruel things. If my husband says, "I didn't understand which thing you were complaining about." to me one more time...to the Moon! One small vindication for me was I finally got an MRI on my right shoulder. For two years I thought it was just Fibro pain, but the AC is torn and hanging by a thread. Papercuts and broken bones feel the same to me. Chin up, eyes ahead. You are brave and dealing with it - that is what matters. Remember what they say about opinions, everyone has them just like other parts of their anatomy:}

Robbinr, totally understand. Even when my doctor asked me, we're are you hurting? What I always answered is your answer...like the flu. I have gotten to the point, I am my own best friend. I will live my life and if someone feels it in my head or I am faking, they can go their way, family or friends.

All I know to do is keep trudging on. Some days are better than others. Thankful I can still do some art work. Joined some others for pizza Wednesday evening. I had a good time and ate some pizza which resulted in a flare with pain because anything in the Nightshade family does this. Each day I feel a little better. Missing out on things and not having any kind of social life has been difficult. Still good to see some people I had not seen in a long time. The neuropathy is very bad. It will improve with time. Having fibro and other problems can make for a lonely existence. Went to the grocery in search of smiling faces. I found some 🙂

I prefer to go alone. I cannot stand noises that come out of my son when I am explaining my pain. He says, now wait a minute mom, don't confuse doctor. I was ready to strangle him. Lord knows he has been to Drs. Maybe o will go on his next appt and do the same to him. But that is not me

I have Fibromyalgia and have suffered with symptoms all my life. Now it's caught up with me & I'm losing the battle. I take Gabapentin for pain and my RLS. It does help with the RLS and so i don't want to change, but I've gained 50 pounds because of the side effects. I hate not being able too do what i used to and now i hate who i am weigh all this weight and no help too get it off. I have almost every symptom of Fibromyalgia and am still trying to work full time. And this last month I've hit a me problem that you all need to be aware of. I take hydrocodone and my term life insurance came due so i was going to convert it to whole life. I've been turned down for any policy with this company soley because i use hydrocodone. This witch hunt on opiates has gone too far!

Oh Lord Angie. I am so sorry. I used gabapenten and it worked for me. I just can't take opiates. Not because I get sick or anything. But I was hooked on them and it took TWO weeks of near death to get off of them. My doctor was furious that I did it with no help. I will never go thru that again. I was hooked on Morphine. My Dr never did anything for my RA except give me pain pills. He was a general practitioner. Who was not familiar with RA. I am so sorry Angie.

I know as my legs can only take so much. My kids are on me constantly about walking. They brag about my DIL's mother and how she walks miles everyday. It is horrible to be compared to a women who does not have RA and Fibro We don't bleed so we are not ill? Its so hard to get people to understand that you are not faking an illness. I stopped taking my son to my appts. He interfers with my conversation with the doctor.

A friend said he has a diet that doesn't have the nightshade veggies in it and he says he feels better I'm going to cut them out of mine and see if it will help me

Well, I love veggies so I will have to see which ones are considered nightshade.
