Benefits of physical therapy

I have a new HIP and after re havb have been going to physical therapy 3 times a week. I dont feel any less pain...Should i keep going?

Hi @jomama80 Congrats on the new hip 🙂 How long have you been going to PT? I always looked at PT as a long-term application.

I have been going 3 times a week for 3 weeks.................The sessions consist of a lot of machines connected tro my hip along with exercises i could do at home....................

Hi again, @jomama80. I am not a medical professional, but I have had several knee surgeries and I know, at least in my case, the PT I needed lasted for many months. I, too, had some of the exercises I could do at home, but I also admit the expectations of having to 'go' to PT helped me keep at it, do it more intensely, and more religiously.

In the case of my knees I did not notice any pain reduction until after a couple of months.

You may feel better with less aggressive PT ..even Water Therapy would be helpful (warm water)

Yes, keep going to PT! Perhaps something other than machines would help more? After both my hip replacements, I had a week of inpatient rehab and then several weeks of outpatient PT. Never once was I connected to any machines. I've been lucky to have therapists who work directly with me and explain why I'm feeling the way I do. Can you ask your surgeon for advice on what alternative kinds of PT might be available and advisable for you?

I have found that I could not get rid of my shoulder/neck pain unless I do my physical therapy exercises at least three times a week. I've been doing this for years since 2008 I think. When I stop doing the PT exercises shoulder pain comes on. I am a baby boomer. I also do egoscue exercise since about year 2000 for my many other physical issues. I've always shared my egoscue exercises with my physical therapist s and they have never objected that I do those exercises along with my physical therapy.
